The whole area is in shock since the death of young Liam Finucane on February 1st. Sincere sympathies to his heart broken parents Breda and Haulie and his sister Rachel and grandparents Mary and Mickey Finucane and Mary Geoghegan. The roads were clogged with traffic on the evening of his funeral, each one anxious to show support to the grieving family. A guard of honour was formed in front of Ballyhahill school as his remains passed by on the way to Ahavoher where he is buried. May he rest in peace and may his loved ones find consolation.
Ballyhahill NS Parents Association will be having a Church Gate collection this Sunday the 17th February. Please give what you can. It is always very much appreciated. Don’t forget to keep the 15th March free for the Table Quiz in the Knockdown Arms. Two years ago was a great success with all the local clubs and organisations putting a table together so hopefully that can happen again this year. All are welcome.
Ballyhahill/Loughill Going Strong continues its Aqua Aerobics class in Askeaton Pool on every each Monday at 12.30 pm and all are welcome to join the group who inform me that it is great fun.
Congratulations to the popular couple Joe and Bridget Kelly, Mohernagh who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 3rd. Canon Kelly officiated at their wedding and was with them to celebrate the anniversary also. Bridget was Canon Kelly’s housekeeper when he was assigned to Ballyhahill many years ago and that is how Joe and Bridget met and romance blossomed. We wish them many more years together.
The play “Sive” went down very well in Listowel last weekend. Later, in the pub Billy Keane, son of John B, thanked the Abha Bhan players for bringing Sive home to Listowel as he complimented the casts on their performances.
I attended the play “The Lonesome West” on last Saturday night. I was very impressed by the stage set up which was so detailed. Well done. Though the play is rather crude and irreverent it has great laughs and lines and was most enjoyable in spite of the sad theme running through it. Congratulations to all involved in it. It was excellent.
Glin Library will be closed on this Friday until next Wednesday at 6pm.
Wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day on this Thursday. Valentine’s Day as a lovers’ festival dates at least from the 14th century.
