Athea GAA
A.G.M.
The A.G.M. of Athea GAA will take place on Sunday, December 9th. The venue will be either the Clubhouse at Páirc na nGael or the Hall. Time and venue will be known at a later date. This is the night for young and old – players and non-players to come along – air their views, become a member of a fast growing club. And with the recent Commemoration Night being such a “night to remember” and such a success for everyone, it’s only right that the club be supported. And this means attending the A.G.M. Many are availing of the walking/running track and of course being off the road, it’s so safe especially for all ages, elderly moreover.
S.D.C.
Have you picked out “your song” or “songs” for the S.D.C. on March 1st at the Devon Inn? This is going to be a huge night again for Athea and Athea GAA Club who need everyone’s support for the night both volunteer acts, helpers and much more to help offset the debt on the pitch, the new training lights and much more work waiting to be done – so all you Men’s/Ladies footballers, Mother’s and Others and anyone else who would like to take to the stage. Get your acts together for S.D.C.

Parish League:
Our Parish League for fourth, fifth and sixth class took place on Sunday morning last in Páirc na nGael. It was a cold day, but that did not deter our young footballers from putting on a great display in front of all the supporters. Diarmuid Collins presented the Stelcon shield to James Hunt and Ronnie Twomey presented the Plate to Tomás Ahern. All players received medals and well deserved treats afterwards. Thank you to all the parents for bringing the treats and helping out in the kitchen. A big thank you to our coaches on the day Ronnie Twomey, Colm Hassett, Pa O’ Sullivan and John Hunt. Many thanks to our referees Aidan Curry and TJ Hunt for doing such a great job. It is greatly appreciated by the Club.
Donkey Derby: (New Lights Fundraiser)
A Donkey Derby will take place at The Top of the Town Bar on Saturday December 1 at 9pm to help raise funds for the new lights installed on the pitch. Donkeys are €30 each (€10 each for Jockey, owner and trainer) Cards are available from Jacqueline and John or any other committee member. People can join together in purchasing a donkey. Girls Parish League:
Our first ever girls parish league took place on Thursday evening last under lights in Páirc na nGael. There was great excitement at school all week in the build up to the parish league as over thirty girls took part on a bitterly cold evening for football. Four teams took to the field playing two matches each in front of a large crowd and to the delight of everyone the standard of football played in the freezing conditions was top class. Afterwards in the warmth of the clubhouse, Emma Vaughan was presented with the Cup and Ailísa Ahern with the Shield by Club chairperson Mary Ita Casey. All the girls got medals and treats for their mighty efforts on the night. Many thanks to our coaches on the night David O Connor, Liz Vaughan, Niall Barrett and Lisa Hunt. Thanks also to all those who brought treats for the girls and helped out on the night. A big thank you to Denis Greaney and Ronnie Twomey for refereeing our games. It is greatly appreciated by the club.
Gaelic for Mothers and Others:
Football training continues for Gaelic for Mother and others every Tuesday evening in Páirc na nGael from 7pm. Everyone is welcome to come along for an hour of football, fun and friendship.
