The death has taken place in Penzance, Cornwall, England after a long illness of Marie Seeney (nee Murphy), daughter of Sean and Ettie Murphy, Rooskagh East on September 27. Sadly missed by her husband, parent’s brother, sister’s relatives and friends. Funeral arrangements to be announced later, and may she rest in Peace.

Carrig Celtic defeated Breska Rovers 4-3 at home in the FAI Junior Cup 2nd Round on Sunday September 30.Killian Enright 2, Seanie King, and Anthony Molyneaux, scored their goals. Creeves Celtic defeated Ferry Rangers 4-0 at home in Division 2 of the Desmond League, with goals from Seamus Mangan 2, Tom Shanahan, and Mark Hennessy. In the Premier Division of the Ladies League Kilcolman Rovers lost 4-1 (Katie Moynihan) away to Breska Rovers. In Division 1 Creeves Celtic lost 2-1 away to Askeaton, with Olivia O’Keeffe scoring.

Newcastle West defeated Templeglantine by 1-7 to 1-5 in the Camogie Junior County A Championship Final played at the Bog Garden Rathkeale on Sunday September 30. The Old Mill club had six ladies on the team, and congratulations to Aoife Danaher, Aishling McEnery, Roisin Mann (Player of the Match), Meadhb Ambrose, Arianne Reidy, and Niamh Sparling.

Congratulations to Sean Moriarty, and Maria Carrig who were prize winners at the card game held in Monagea Hall on Wednesday September 26. The card game takes place in Ardagh Community Centre on Tuesday evenings at 9pm. The weekly card game continues in the Flag Floor Glensharrold on Wednesday evenings at 9pm, tea is served and all are welcome.

Coolcappa parent and toddler group meet on Wednesday’s from 9.30am to 11am in Coolcappa Community Hall. There will be a full list of activities to do and refreshments available and contact 087-9291806 for all the details.

Limerick City and County Library Service would like to invite members of the public and interested groups to give their views on the future direction of Limerick Library Service. Things to consider include: How can the service be improved and what extra activities can be introduced and what are the key priorities for the next five years. Submission forms are available in the local library branches, and online, and people can email or post their views to Limerick Council. The closing date is Friday November 2.

A meeting of Ardagh I.C.A. Guild members will be held on this Thursday October 11at 8pm in Ardagh Community Centre. A guest speaker will address the members on Wellness. The members would like to thank all who contributed so successfully to their recent Coffee Morning in aid of Milford Hospice. It realised the fine total of €600 which has been forwarded to the Hospice.

A Coffee Morning will be held at the Thatch Bar, Newbridge on Saturday October 13 from 10am, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Activities for children will include a bouncing castle, colouring corner, and lots more with music by local musicians. All the proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Ireland and all are welcome.

The Junior set/céilí dance classes take place in Carrigkerry Community Centre each Friday evenings from 6.45pm. Advanced set dancing classes are held in Con Colbert Hall Athea each Tuesday night at 9pm, and all are welcome. A series of Social Dancing nights commenced in the Longcourt Hotel Newcastle West on Thursday October 4. They are being run by John Joe Herlihy and Phil Fealey former owner of the Country Club in Carrigkerry. The first night attracted 240 people who enjoyed a great night dancing to Dermot Lyons.  The admission is € 10 and the dancing is from 9-11.30pm and all are welcome.

Congratulations to John Liston Castlemahon, who won €220 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday October 5. Tickets cost €2 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, or from the radio station. All support is very much appreciated.

The Garry McMahon 10th Annual Singing Weekend takes place from Friday October 19 to Sunday 21. It is a wonderful weekend of traditional singing and storytelling sessions, newly composed ballad competition, and a bus tour of local heritage areas. The full programme of events is interesting and should provide all attendees with lots of enjoyment. It commences on Friday October 19 with the Official Opening by Darragh Ó Sé at The Ramble Inn at 8pm, followed by a Singing Session at the Ramble Inn and also at Leen’s Hotel at 9pm. Saturday October 20 Song and Story Presentation at The Ramble Inn at 11am. Special Singing Session at The Ramble Inn at 2pm. Aifreann Na Ríocht at Abbeyfeale Church at 6.30pm as composed by Garry McMahon and performed by The Abbeyfeale Choir. Singing Sessions at the Ramble Inn and Leen’s Hotel at 9.30pm. Sunday October 21 Singing Session upstairs in Leen’s Hotel at 11am, followed by a Tribute to Kitty O’Donoghue and Nora Kennedy (members of the Carrig family Creeves) at Fr. Casey’s GAA Hall at 3pm. The weekend will conclude with a Farewell Singing Session at The Ramble Inn at 6.30pm.

The children and parents of Coolcappa National School will hold a Coffee Morning and bake sale  in Coolcappa Hall after 10am Mass on Sunday, October 21 in aid of the Indonesian Quake, and all support will be greatly appreciated.

The annual Halloween children’s disco will be held on Friday, October 26 in Coolcappa Hall from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
