Intermediates:
Our Intermediates team lined out against Rathkeale on Saturday evening last in the West Intermediate football final and despite the team’s best efforts – they failed to ‘gain the spoils’. The final score being 3-10 to 1-7.
However “they live in hope” for their next “must win” game against Mungret. This is the 5th round of the championship and Athea are the top of the group. They will meet Kilbready(Martinstown) on this Friday and a win will automatically see them through to the semi-final. They are wished all the best.
Minors:
Well done to the Minor team who, on Sunday evening last, had a very exciting game in Tournafulla against Knockaderry/Monagea. It was “nail-biting” and at the whistle they had won by just 1 point. They now meet Glin in the County Final.
Celebration:
Please get your tickets as soon as you can for the “50th” Celebration Social at the Devon Inn. Tickets can be got at Collins’ Shop – music by Neily O’Connor. If you want a “Family Table” you are asked to book it as soon as possible with either Paul Curry 087-6501673 or Kathleen Mullane 087-1233361 or Pat Sullivan on 087-2997628.

U10 Billy Kirwan Tournament:
Athea U10s competed in the St. Senans run Billy Kirwan tournament in Shanagolden on Sunday morning last. We played St. Senans in the semi final in the first match. After a slow start, we came into the game towards end of the first half and dominated the second half, but lost out in the end to a good St. Senans team. We then went onto to play Askeaton in the shield final and the game was all square at half time Athea 3-01 to Askeaton 2-04,
despite Athea playing against a very stiff wind. We totally dominated the second half from start to finish and won the game. Each and every player played their hearts out in very testing conditions and they produced the best football they played all year. Team: Tom Ahern, Thomas Barrett, Jamie O’ Mahony, Patrick Healy, Mark Ahern, Jamie Quinn, Eric Barrett, Millie O Sullivan (Capt), Tomás Ahern, Jamie Lee Flynn, Alex Quinn & Tony Ahern.
