The Deputy Mayor Michael Collins formally launched the Ardagh Chalice 150 Festival in the Hunt Museum on Thursday September 13. The St Kieran’s Heritage Association are very grateful to Lady Geraldine Dunraven who obtained permission to have the launch in the Hunt Museum and to have their Ardagh Chalice present. Many thanks to Naomi and her staff and the Hunt Family for facilitating and to all who attended. The local launch of the Ardagh Chalice 150 Festival was held on Friday September 14 in Ardagh Community Centre, and a good crowd attended including Minister Patrick O’Donovan. The Festival commences this Friday at 6pm which is Culture Night and a program of events is available around the locality. The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary together with Milford Hospice Friends wish to thank most sincerely all who contributed so generously towards the annual Church gate collections taken up at Mass at Carrigkerry on Saturday September 8 and Ardagh on Sunday September 9. A total of €221.25 was collected in Carrigkerry and €420.05 in Ardagh. A special thank you to all the collectors who gave of their time to willingly.
Saint Kieran’s defeated Rathkeale by 2-10 to 1-12 in the West Junior B Football Championship Quarter Final at Ballyhahill Gaelic Grounds on Sunday September 9. It was played on a windy and dry evening before a small attendance. Saint Kieran’s welcomed back Michael Flynn after his stay in Australia and he contributed three points from centre field. Rathkeale dominated the opening stages and led by 5 points to two after twenty minutes. A Darragh Breen goal and point helped St Kieran’s to lead by 1-4 to 0-5 at half-time.
They led by four points after the opening ten minutes, only to see Rathkeale hit back with a goal. In reply Evan Donovan won a penalty which was converted by Darragh O’Connor on 16 minutes. Rathkeale then hit four points from play with Stephen Lyons, replying with a pointed free on 24 minutes to set up a very exciting finish. St Kieran’s who defeated Mountcollins by 3-11 to 0-7 in the play-off match, held out to book a semi-final place. In the semi-final played at Kevin Long Park Feenagh on Friday September 14 Drom/Broadford defeated them by 0-16 to 2-4. They trailed by 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time, and fell eleven points behind entering the final ten minutes. A scoring burst came too late to deny the favourites a place in the final. . Carrig Celtic defeated Granagh Utd 3-1 at home in the Premier Division of the Desmond League on Sunday September 9. It was their first win of the campaign and Liam Upton, Ray Cahill, and Killian Enright scored their goals. In Division 2 Creeves Celtic defeated Askeaton 3-1 at home with goals from Tommy Dillane, Richard Hayes, and Seamus Mangan.
Ardagh ICA members will hold a coffee morning on Thursday, September 20 at Ardagh Community Centre from 10am to 12 noon in aid of Milford Hospice. They would appreciate support from the community for this very deserving cause.

The Deel Animal Action Group are holding a church gate collection outside St Colman’s Church Kilcolman on Saturday Sept 22. The group do wonderful work with unwanted animals and they would appreciate public support.
