Congratulations and best wishes in the future to the following couples who were married recently. Robert Culhane, Coolcappa and Audrey Bradford, Charleville. Jason O’Donovan, Ardagh and Mareta Mullane, Ballyguleen at St Mary’s Church Feohanagh on Friday, July 20, and followed by a reception in Listowel Arms Hotel.

The death has taken place of William Lodge (Billy) Blackpool, England and late of Riddlestown, Rathkeale on August 15 and partner of the late Betty. He lay in repose at Magner’s Funeral Home Rathkeale on Saturday September 1 from 6.30pm to 8pm. His remains arrived at St Kyran’s Church Coolcappagh on Sunday for Requiem Mass at 2pm, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.  We extend our sympathy to his brother, sisters and extended family. May he rest in Peace.

Coolcappa primary school reopened on Wednesday, September 5 following the summer renovations and additions. Thanks to all who helped to get it ready for the new school term, and it is hoped to have an official opening later in the year.

The Limerick GAA Club draw for August was held in Na Piarsaigh Clubhouse Limerick on Friday, August 3. Congratulations to St Kieran’s club members Noel Galvin and James O’Connor, who each won €100.

The following are the Lottery results from Neary’s Bar on Monday August 27. The numbers drawn were 4, 14, 21, and 26, and there was no Jackpot winner.  Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who won €40 each: John O’Connor, Carrigkerry, The Sheik c/o Peg O’Connor, Liam Cremin, Old Mill, Eoin Dillane c/o The Ballintemple and Patrick Culhane c/o Moloney’s. Next week’s Jackpot will be €10,400 and the draw will be held in The Old Mill Bar.

Congratulations to Limerick who defeated London by 3-15 to 1-14 in the All Ireland Ladies Junior Football Championship at Mallow on Sunday August 26. Róisín Ambrose from the Old Mill Ladies team lined out at half forward.  Limerick will meet Louth in the All Ireland final in Croke Park on Sunday September 16, at 11.45am. Congratulations to Sophie Hennessy, Roisin Mann, and Iris Kennelly from the Old Mill club who were members of the Limerick U-17 team that claimed All Ireland Shield success in the Development competition at Abbotstown on August 21.

Thanks to everyone who contributed €646.20 to the recent church gate collection taken up in Coolcappa/Kilcolman in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

Askeaton/St Kieran’s defeated Tournafulla/Killeedy by 6-16 to 2-12 in the West Minor B Hurling Championship semi-final at Newcastle West on Tuesday August 21.

Congratulations to John Mulvihill and Vinnie Wrenn, who were first prize winners at the card game held in Shanagolden Hall on Friday, August 24.

Local Link Limerick has announced six new evening bus services to cater for their customers. Ardagh and Carrigkerry are included in the Newcastle West route which operates a return service over the three weekend evenings. The Ardagh/Carrigkerry Social Club resumed after the summer break on Tuesday September 4. All are welcome to come along and join in the activities which include Bingo, music song dance and celebrating birthdays, with some surprises and refreshments. The club commences at 2pm each Tuesday and transport is provided for people in outlining areas.

St Kieran’s Heritage Association meetings are being held weekly on Tuesday’s at 8pm in Ardagh Hall in the run up to the Ardagh Chalice 150 Festival commencing on Friday September 21.  People who are interested in getting involved are asked to attend the meetings for up to date news, and to check out the face book page. Programmes with all the details covering the two week end of events have been distributed to shops and premises around the locality. The Dreams of Paddy Flanagan video which was launched at Neary’s Bar on August 10 can also be checked out on Facebook. The Story of the Ardagh Chalice by John Hough booklet is also available to buy. A number of Billboards advertising the festival have been put in place in prominent positions to catch the eye of would be attendees. A fine display of items created from the Children’s art competition can be seen on display in a corner shop window at the junction of Maiden and Bridge Street in Newcastle West.  Also on display are some of the prizes to be awarded for raffle winners at the Church Concert on September 30. On this Thursday Sept 6 Paul Moriarty is calling all bodhran players to meet up in Ardagh Community Centre for a practice session, in preparation for the Last Druid drama to be staged on September 29 and 30.

The Friends of St Ita’s Community Hospital Newcastle West will hold a fundraising Golf Classic at Newcastle West Golf Club in Ardagh on September 7/8. This classic is a pre-qualifier competition for the JP Mc Manus Invitational Pro-Am 2020 in Adare Manor Golf Club. People interested in participating are asked to contact Joan Kelly secretary, St Ita’s Day Hospital at 069-66552 (9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday) and forward a cheque to her made payable to the Friends of St Ita’s Golf Classic.
