Athea Utd Soccer
BIG NUMBERS AGAIN AT SOCCER CAMP
Last week we had another hugely successful SportsDirect.com FAI Soccer Camp at The Vales. The camp was fully booked out with 100 children attending the camp thus proving the growth and popularity of soccer in the country. Head Coach was Dayle Danaher and the coaches at the camp were Dean Maune, Rebecca McGuinness, Rebekah Daly, Dyon Keane, Sarah O’Connor, Aaron O’Connor, Tara Walsh along with coaches assistants Daniel Hayes and Conor Daly. On behalf of Athea Utd like to thank Dayle and all the coaches who looked after all the children last week who did their job in a very professional manner. All the children received a full kit, backpack and football as well as learning skills and making new friends as well.
Looking forward to the 2019 soccer camp.
NOTE – Thanks also to Ned and Mike who had The Vales in splendid condition once again for the duration of the camp.

Intermediates:
The Intermediates had a superb win on Friday night last against Bruff in the Bog Garden, Rathkeale. It was a brilliant all-round performance by the team, much to the delight of trainer Seamus O’Donnell. The scoreline was 2-14 to 0-6.
Well Done:
Well, if ever there was a day for “heart-attacks” it was last Sunday. And what a game it was, everyone was so proud to be from Limerick. Doesn’t sporting wins bring everyone together. Hopefully they will go all the way now.

Round 5:
Monday July 30:
Athea 4-04 Rathkeale/Cappagh 2-06
Our boys put in a tremendous performance to defeat the table toppers in Athea on Monday night last. We played against the breeze in the first half, but our defence were outstanding and we broke quickly for our own attacks to lead at half time 4-00 to 1-02, we probably missed another three goal chances. The second half saw Rathkeale/Cappagh get on top for good periods, but our defence held out well under pressure and we scored a vital four points of our own to keep our noses in front. It was a great team display enjoyed by the large crowd of supporters. Team: Colin Broderick, Pierce O’ Brien, Thomas McEnery, Eoin Sheahan, Gavin Ambrose, Eoin O’ Shea, Luke Gleeson, Michael Tierney, Andrew O’ Riordan, Jack Hunt, T.J. Hunt, Daire O’ Shea,
Aidan Curry, Conor McAuliffe and Evan Wallace, subs, Gearoid O’ Sullivan, Bryan Reidy and Conor Mullane.
Round 4:
In round 4, we lost to Dromcollogher/Broadford in Dromcollogher on a score line Dromcollogher/Broadford 4-05 to 2-06, we played pretty well in that match also but we didn’t take enough scores when we were in the ascendency. Our next game is away to Granagh/Ballingarry on Monday August 13th at 7.15pm.
U 15 Super 7s:
A panel of ten U15 footballers took part in the Munster seven a side football competition in Cork IT on Saturday June 16. There were three Cork teams, two Kerry teams and Athea from Limerick. Each game was ten minutes a half on a reduced sized pitch. In our first game we lost to a strong Sneem/Derrynane/Templenoe team from South Kerry. In our second game against Ballingeary from west Cork, we had to win to progress to the
semi-final. Ballingeary started like a train and scored two early goals. With nothing to lose our talented team went all out attack and dominated from there on to win with an incredible score line of 10-04 to 8-00. The other group was topped by St Senans, Kerry and we played them in the semi-final, both teams despite a break between games were tired at this stage, and the pace of the game slowed a bit. We were on top for long periods but some poor shooting and St. Senans ability to score on the counter attack saw them win by two points on a score line, 2-06 to 3-01. The games were very exciting and all our ten players played their part in a great day’s football. Thanks to Julie and Gerry Finucane and Sean and Mairead O’ Shea who drove up to Cork to help transport and support the team. Panel: Brandon Finucane, captain, Michael Tierney, Gavin Ambrose, Eoin O’ Shea, T.J. Hunt, Pierce O’ Brien, Dermot Pierse, Gearoid O’ Sullivan, Daire O’ Shea and Fergal Pierse.
