Athea GAA
Great Win:
Well, there is a state of ‘Euphoria’ all over the county after Limerick’s exciting game on Sunday. Every town and village was decked out in the green and white, from flags to buntings, green lights and so much more – our own Athea would have taken ‘pride of place’ among any of them, with Athea Tidy Towns doing great work in and around the village and all households having flags flying. No doubt celebrations will continue for a long time – congrats all around.
Intermediates:
We have one of our own very important games on this Thursday, August 23rd when the intermediates meet Mungret (check venue). This game could reach senior level next season. Your support is really appreciated, so get behind the boys.
Social:
Don’t forget to order your tickets early for the much looked-forward to ‘celebration social’. 50 years ago Athea beat Treaty Sarsfields in the Gaelic Grounds to win their Co. title. The gallant players of that game will be there on the night to reminisce and meet each other after many years. The great night in on October 5th.

Athea Ladies Football
Match:
Tuesday August 14:
Athea 2-14 Mungret/St. Paul’s 1-09
Athea ladies progress to the County Intermediate semi-final with a well deserved eight point victory over Mungret/St.Pauls on Tuesday evening last. We got off to a poor start as a goal and a couple of points for the opposition gave them an early lead. We rallied back and thanks to points from Mary Ita Casey, Anita Quinn, Noelle Curtin and Megan Carroll we had gained a two point lead. Mungret/St.Pauls hit back with a few points of their own and at the break we trailed by two points, the score line read Athea 0-08, Mungret/St.Pauls 1-07. A big performance was needed in the second half as we were playing into a strong wind. Both sides exchanged points but then Athea hit a purple patch and two points each from Carla Sheehy and Noelle Curtin had us two points up. Anita Quinn then scored a super goal before Mungret/St.Pauls got their last point of the night. Rebekah Daly secured victory when converted a penalty and a late point from Noelle Curtin left the final score Athea 2-14, Mungret/St.Pauls 1-09. We will now play Oola in the county Intermediate Semi final on Saturday September 1, time and venue to be confirmed. All support for our ladies team would be greatly appreciated. Panel: Sarah O’ Connor, Amy Carmody, Katie Collins, Saorcha Fitzgerald, Rebekah Daly, Maeve Carmody, Rachel Greaney, Lisa O’ Connor, Lisa O’ Connell, Sandra Larkin, Carla Sheehy, Anita Quinn, Jackie Stackpoole, Mary Ita Casey, Noelle Curtin, Maeve Murphy, Megan Carroll, Michelle Curtin and Ciara Hunt.
