Athea GAA
Best of Luck:
I’m sure everyone in Athea will “be rooting” for Limerick on Sunday next. There’s a great buzz around and Athea looks very well with flags flying from every post, house, pillar etc. even our Church has green and white bunting adorning it’s front – we hope “the man above” will look down on the team and all the supporters that will be travelling and cheering them on Sunday. Our Tidy Towns have our library lit up with green lights and also our defibrillator phone box!
Intermediates:
Our Intermediates play one of their most important games against Mungret on August 23rd. The venue has yet to be decided. This should be an exciting game and your support would be greatly appreciated.
Junior B’s:
The Junior B’s played against Rathkeale in Knockaderry on Thursday evening last. Unfortunately they lost on a scoreline of 5-18 to 3-7 – here’s to better days.
Celebration:
Tickets will be out and on sale shortly for the celebration social (50 years) of Athea ‘s Gallant Victory against Treaty Sarsfields, and a lot more. It will be held at The Devon Inn in October and invitations are gone out to all the gallant players, at home and abroad, who will all be hopefully attending. There will be some celebrity speakers there on the night also and presentations will be made. Book your tickets early.

Matches:
U12s:
Our U12s had a day to remember on Thursday last when they played four matches in the newly renovated Páirc Ui Chaoimh in Cork. We left Athea at 11am, when we arrived in Cork we played St.Senans Clare, Clan na Gael Waterford, Agrideen Cork and our near neighbours St.Kierans. On the day we played some fantastic football, the coaches were very proud and delighted at how well they did against other teams from other Counties. After the excitement of the matches, our young team got a tour of the dressing rooms in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and on the way home a stop at Supermacs in Mallow was very welcome. After an exhausting day, we arrived back in Páirc na nGael safe and sound at 7.30pm. Panel: Callum Buckley, Tadgh Ahern, Evan Curry, Rory Cleary, Tomás Ahern, Jim Ahern, Callum O’ Mahony, Sean Twomey, Michael Kelly, Louis O’ Sullivan, Jamie Collins, Fionn Histon, James Hunt, Ciaran Hunt, Jack Sexton Alex Quinn & Tomás Ahern.
