The death has taken place of Mary Malone (nee O’ Connor) Killaheen, Reens, Ardagh and St. Mary’s Secondary School, Newport, Co. Tipperary on Friday May 4. She was predeceased by her father John a short while ago. Reposing at her home on Monday May 7 from 5pm to 8pm. Her remains arrived for her Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Rathkeale on Tuesday May 8 at 12 noon, followed by burial afterwards in Kilscannell cemetery. We extend our sympathy to her loving husband David, devoted children Sean and Carol, mother Philomena, aunts, uncles, cousins and cherished friends in Castlegregory, Ardagh, Rathkeale and Newport. May she rest in Peace.

Congratulations to the Limerick ladies U 16 County football team who defeated Clare by 5-5 to 1-6 to win their first Munster title at Mallow on Saturday May 5. Iris Kennelly from the Old Mill club was awarded Player of the Match. Róisín Mann was corner back and Leah Hayes, Emma Donovan, and Sophie Liston were on the panel, and Ciara Mann was a selector.
West Limerick won the Eithne Neville Cup for Primary Schools, defeating the South by 5-5 to 0-0 at the Gaelic Grounds on Thursday May 3. Congratulations to Old Mill players Leah Quinlan, Molly Murphy, and Antonia Madigan who were part of the team.
Carrig Celtic defeated Shannonside FC 4-3 away in the Premier Division of the Desmond League on Sunday May 6. Killian Enright, 2 Anthony Molyneaux, and Ray Cahill scored their goals, to move them six points clear of the relegation places. Creeves Celtic defeated Athea Utd B 8-0 at home in Division 3 with Seamus Mangan 3, Richard Hayes 3, and Jimmy Dillane 2, scoring their goals. Carrig Celtic B lost 3-1(Seamus Hunt) at home to Broadford Utd B. In the Ladies Desmond Cup semi-final Kilcolman Rovers lost 8-0 away to Ballingarry

The news that nine roads in Limerick County are to be upgraded under the Local Improvement Scheme is to be welcomed. The Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) was set up to improve small roads and laneways in rural Ireland which are not under the normal maintenance of the local Authorities. West Limerick roads to benefit will be in Dunganville Ardagh, Tooreendonnell Athea, and Knocknadiha Tournafulla.

St Kieran’s Heritage Association will hold their next meeting on Thursday May 17 at 8pm in the Heritage room in Ardagh Community hall. A Table Quiz to raise funds for the Ardagh Chalice 150 Festival will be held at Reen’s Bar on Saturday May 19. A church gate collection will be held in Coolcappa/Kilcolman on Saturday May 25/and Sunday May 26.
The annual 3 day Kerry Challenge will be held in the Dingle Peninsula from Thursday May 17 to Saturday May 19. Joe Carrig Eamon O’Kane Pat Toomey and Mike Histon will be participating and they would appreciate financial support.
Kilcolman Rovers are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the club at present. On Friday May 18 the 1998/99 junior men’s team will play a challenge match. On Saturday May 19 Desmond Cup team 2011/2012 will play the present Kilcolman Rovers ladies team, plus underage matches, and fun games. This will be followed by a presentation evening and entertainment in Neary’s Bar Ardagh.
Newcastle West Film Club is screening Sully directed by Clint Eastwood in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday May 18, at 8pm. The admission is free as it is part of the Bealtaine festival.
The third Milford Hospice Memorial Walk will take place at 12 noon on Sunday May 20. A fundraising Céilí for Sarah O’Doherty, Dually who will be volunteering in Fiji, in July with Volunteer Eco Students Abroad will be held in Con Colbert Community Hall Athea on Saturday June 2 from 9.30 pm to 12.30am. The entrance fee is €10 and a raffle will be held and refreshments provided. The sets will be called and all support will be greatly appreciated.
