CFRs say Thank You
The Community First Responders (Registered Charity Number 20164973) want to say Thank You to everyone who gave so generously to their church gate collection last weekend. €995.83 was collected. This money will be used to maintain/purchase equipment and train new volunteers. Training for new volunteers will take place on the 05th May. Contact Rodge Byrne (086 3103233) for more information. A reminder – in the case of an Emergency (out of hours) – cardiac arrest, chest pain, choking, heart attack or stroke, first ring emergency service (999 or 112). It is helpful to have your eircode, as it is very useful for the ambulance service and saves you having to give directions. Then ring the CFRs at 087 2737077.

Eileen McGrath R.I.P.
I am contacting you as my family was originally from Athea, my Grandparents Michael and May McGrath (Kennelly) had land in the area, which I understand is now where the wind turbines are, and which was then farmed by my grandfather’s sister’s family, the O’Connors, when my family left for England. I visited 3 years ago when we brought my Dad, Martin McGrath’s ashes home. I came from England with my aunt Eileen McGrath as she wanted to visit the place where she lived as a child.
Eileen sadly died on Friday 23rd Feb at the age of 74, her funeral will be on her birthday 9th March in Rendlesham, Suffolk. I am so glad she was able to bring me to the areas of Athea and Gortdromasillihy, Moyvane (her mothers family home) to show me where she grew up. I would like to let the community of Athea know that Eileen has passed, as there may be people who remember her from her school days. I would be happy for anyone who knew Eileen to contact me. She was always so proud of her Irish roots, and from the place she spent her early years. If you could share this message on your page or parish news it would be much appreciated.
With best wishes, Brigid McGrath
