Athea GAA
A.G.M.:
The A.G.M. of Athea GAA took place at the Páirc na nGael clubhouse on Sunday evening last at 7pm. There was a good crowd in attendance. Pat O’Sullivan (secretary) read the minutes of last year’s A.G.M. Athea Utd were thanked for the bridging loan they gave Athea GAA. Those who work on the field were thanked and especially Jacqueline O’Connor for her commitment . Pat also read his secretary’s report.
Máireád O’Donovan (treasurer) gave a detailed account of the club’s finances. With the Lip-Sync last year being a huge success and bringing in much needed money. In 2016 the club was in debt by €71,000 – at this point in time the debt is down to €44,000. Paul Curry (chairman) welcomed Fr. Duggan and gave his address and as Máireád had spent the past few years as treasurer and due to work and family commitments had to step down, Paul said the club was so very fortunate to have had Máireád as treasurer. A memento was presented to her as a token of appreciation.
In his address Paul said the past year was very busy and that the club was in debt to the sponsors of the Lip-Sync as well as Damien Ahern who was a great source of inspiration. The pitch, he stated, was getting accolades and is now one of the top pitches around. Denis Greaney, he said, was a great leader and mentor to the players. Pa Chawke, it is hoped, will be back next year having been injured.
Jamie Kelly is putting the Club History book together and it’s hoped that it will be launched around the Club’s 1968 anniversary celebration. Tommy Denihan was praised for his refereeing – sympathy was extended to the bereaved families with a special mention by Paul of little Ella Ahern R.I.P. who got to go to the Lip-Sync.
The new year it is hoped will bring all good games Paul said and he finished by wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas. Timmy Woulfe stated we had “A Gem of a Pitch”.
Monday, December 11th has been set aside as the night when Gárda Vetting for all club managers, trainers etc, will be organised on-line. Further enquiries from Jacqueline O’Connor or Paul Curry.
