Athea GAA

U21s:

Athea U21s played the West A semi-final on Saturday evening last against Clann na nGael. The game was played in Tournafulla in terrible conditions, having rained all the night before and continuous rain all day Saturday. The final score was (3-4) to (1-4) with the opposition reaching the final. They now meet Shannon Gaels, the Ballyhahill/Glin combination, in the West A final. Shannon Gaels having beaten Ballysteen in Athea at the weekend. The game, which was to have been played in The Bog Garden, Rathkeale, was transferred to the Athea pitch which proved to be much drier.

Players Meeting:

At the players meeting, at the Clubhouse on Friday night last, a total of 27 players attended which was great. The new manager for the Athea team is Seamus O’Donnell – who is a former Limerick goalkeeper. Hopefully the Intermediates will do well under his guidance this coming season. With the gym now available for the players, it is hoped fitness will be no problem.

The club thanks former manager, Pat Higgins, for his time and effort with the team over the past years – well done Pat.
