Athea GAA
Card Game:
The GAA progressive 41 card game continues next Monday night October 23 at 9p.m. sharp at Brown Joe’s. All are welcome. The game is 2x3s, everyone plays 18 games with the team with most games won, declared the winner, and there are also table prizes and raffle prizes all for cash.
Fixture:
U21s v St. Senan’s at 4pm in Ballyhahill this Saturday, October 21st.
Well there’s not much going on these days on the GAA front. However there is always work going on ‘behind the scenes’ -in preparation for the next season. Meetings, field preparation, discussions on Management of teams, trainers, the gym, the walking track and a whole lot more.
500 Draw:
The next leg of the Club Draw will be held in 2 weeks time and if you still want to be in with a chance, you can still buy a ticket at €10 a month for the remaining draws. By helping out you are also helping to reduce the field debt
Journal:
Don’t forget if anyone out here has any old GAA photos, they would be more than welcome for the forthcoming Parish Journal or even Jamie Kelly’s booklet which he is preparing on Athea’s GAA history.
Fund-raising:
We are still waiting for ‘Feedback’ on fund-raising for the club. As everyone is aware the outstanding debt, which is going down ‘little by little’ still needs a ’major boost’ to get the debt down to a good, manageable sum. The Lip-Sync last year raised over €20,000 bringing the debt down to approx €40,000. so come up with your ideas for another major boost.

Parish Leagues:
We held our U6, U8, U10 and U12 Football Parish Leagues on Sunday last in Páirc na nGael. A great day was had by all who attended. There was some great points and goals scored to the delight of all who attended. It was great to see how much all teams have improved since the start of the year. I have no doubt all the boys and girls will continue practising their footballs skills at home during the winter and all teams will be rearing to start back training early next year. A big thank you to our referees Tommy Denihan, Mark Reidy, James O’Connor and Roger Ryan for helping out on the day. A massive thank you to all the parents for bringing all the treats and goodies for the parish league, they were well earned by all the boys and girls. Thank you to Mark Reidy for the minerals for the players. A special thank you to our U6 coaches David O’Connor and Michael Reidy, our U8 coaches Neilus Hunt, Mary Hunt, Jackie Broderick, Seamus Ahern and Loretta Brouder. Our U10 coaches Ronnie Twomey, Pa O’Sullivan and Mike Flynn, our U12 coaches Mike Buckley and Colm Hassett. Our U14 coaches John Hunt, James O’Connor and Roger Ryan. Our U16 coaches Richard Fitzgerald, Noel Barry and Paul Curry for all their time and commitment they have put into our future stars. Thank you to Sarah O’Connor, Karina Buckley, Kathleen Broderick, Jack O’Connor, David O’Connor & Aidan Curry for helping out in the kitchen, Brandon Finucane for helping take some of the photos and thank you to all those who helped out in anyway. It is greatly appreciated. Overall this was a great year for the younger members of the Club, we had great numbers attending training and matches and we welcomed new coaches to all age groups. We are always looking for parents to get involved in the Club and if anyone wishes to help out in anyway next year please contact Jacqueline. Thank you to Derek Byrne, Tommy Denihan & David OConnor who refereed games for us throughout the year. We are very lucky to have three great referees in the Club. Our football season is now over, but we will have two fundraisers before the end of the year to ensure the successful running of the Club, A Donkey Derby in November and our Annual Table Quiz in December. All support for both events would be greatly appreciated.
