Congratulations to Seánie Lynch and Sinead Hayes who got engaged last weekend. Exciting times ahead for them and we wish them all the very best.

Congratulations too to Liam Enright who celebrated his 92nd birthday last Sunday. Some of his many nieces and nephews visited him during the day to celebrate with him. When I first started school in Clounleharde about 60 years ago I remember Jimmy and Liam walking their greyhounds every day. It is great to see that Liam still does his daily walk even though he has not the company of his brother Jimmy or his beloved greyhounds.

Don’t forget that Meditation and Mindfulness Classes are beginning in Cloverfield in Glin on next Monday September 18 for 8 weeks. Beginners at 6.30 to 8pm. Continuation group 8.15 to 9.45 pm. €100. Booking essential. Ring Ali at 0876452227.  If this is not your preference you can go to the dancing classes in Ballyhahill Parish hall every Monday night instead.  Either one is good.

Six children started school in Ballyhahill this September. Ayda Daly, Grace Campbell, Klara Phillips, Thomas Rimmer, Charlie Conway and CJ Keane. What is most interesting, to me anyway, is that the surnames are not originally from Ballyhahill but four out of the six have mothers who are from the parish and went to school in Ballyhahill. In the past the women followed the husbands to their place of birth but it is the trend in Ballyhahill for the women to bring the husbands back to Bally. Good for them!

Ballyhahill NS Parents Association will be hosting a Cookery Demonstration by Dee Doody in Ballyhahill Parish Hall on Sunday 1st October at 4pm. She will be demonstrating starters, main courses, and desserts with lots of advice, tips and tricks to help cook that perfect meal! The Ballyhahill NS Cookbook, which was put together by the pupils and teachers and contains all their favourite recipes, will be launched on that evening also. It promises to be a fun event so please come along and support. Tickets are €15 each and all proceeds go towards the school. Tickets can be bought in all the local shops or from the committee members or through the students! Your support will be appreciated.

Congratulations to Bridie Murphy on her lovely poem in the Weekly Observer last week about her grandchild’s first week at school. It is lovely to see my sister taking up the pen as well as the camera.
