‘Out & About’
Firstly I want to apologize at having left out Nicole Fitzgerald’s name from my list of those who joined us in Lourdes. And I wouldn’t mind but Nicole helped out greatly pushing wheelchairs etc. Well done Nicole – you were a great help.
Also with regards to the big candle that was lit by the group on pilgrimage for all the intentions of our Athea parishioners at home – this was got out of the fundraiser in the church which you all gave to so willingly, so well done to all – you were all remembered.
Next weekend the church gate collection will be taken up before the two masses in aid of the Colbert Community Hall. You are asked to give as generously as possible as the upkeep of the hall has many costs, from heating to insurance, gas, electricity etc. And you are reminded that parties of all kinds are welcome to rent out the hall and kitchen for all types of events.
Anyone wishing to go on the Ring of Kerry outing (organized by Ballyhahill Going Strong) on July 11th is asked to contact 069-82132 Lizzie or Eileen 069-82229 as soon as possible. There will be a pick up in Abbeyfeale also. The fare is €40 which includes meals and the bus trip.
James Dunne “Artist Extraordinaire” has added another new face to his mural up at the top of the street depicting the old forge that once was there. Now Dr. Kieran Murphy can be seen up in the right hand corner and the resemblance is unreal. What a gifted artist – we are lucky to have him in our midst. And of course the flowers and hanging baskets are adding an extra touch to the village – isn’t’ it lovely to see our little village looking so well – let’s keep it so.
A big crowd attended the memorial mass on Friday night last for the late Dr. John (Seán) Barrett here in Athea. Sympathy is extended to his sister Maura, brothers Tom, Denis and Jim, his relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.
Well we are into July already, another year halfways gone. Just Friday last the National Schools got holidays and would you believe that day I saw on a window “Back to School” bargains – what do you bet in the next short while we will see them putting up adverts for Christmas shopping!. God be with the days when “Christmas” was “Christmas” and “Easter” was “Easter”! Now they try “to get to people” months in advance.
Thought for the week – “A man can’t get rich if he takes proper care of his family”
