The following are the Lottery results from Neary’s Bar Ardagh on Monday July 10. The numbers drawn were 14,21,23, and 29 and there was no Jackpot winner. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who won €40 each: Alice, Daniel, and Michael Barrett, Glenastar, Tommy Greaney, Kilcolman, Paddy Bridgeman, Ardagh, Gráinne Hanley, Coolcappa and Eileen Kelly, Kilcolman. Next week’s Jackpot will be €5,200 and the draw will be held at Moore’s Bar Carrigkerry.
Congratulations and best wishes to Steve Murphy and Michelle Moore who held their wedding celebrations in the Castle Oaks House Hotel, Castleconnell on Friday July 7. Steve is son of Bridie and Stephen, Glenastar and formally Glensharrold.
Congratulations to Rebecca Conlon, Rooska who was recently announced winner of the Munster Mum of the Year competition sponsored by Woman’s Way and Beko. She received a Beko voucher, and a €500 goodie bag at a special ceremony in Dublin. She has been chief carer for her 7 year old son Adam who has Mowat-Wilson Syndrome.
The death has taken place in England of Sean Quinn, late of Glensharrold, Carrigkerry, on Saturday July 8. Sympathy to his relations and friends, and may he rest in Peace. A Memorial Mass will be held later in Saint Mary’s Church Carrigkerry.
Saint Kieran’s club were well represented on the Limerick U-14 U-15 and U-16 football teams that participated in tournaments on Saturday July 8. The U-14 team players Cathal McEnery, Conor Woulfe, Patrick Ambrose, and Sean Ryan, took part in the Jim Power tournament in Dungarvan. The U-15 team players Aaron Heffernan, and Daniel Geraghty, took part in the Humphrey Kelleher Memorial Cup in Dromtariffe, Cork. Both teams performed very well but lost all their games. The U-16 team players Kevin Guinea, John Hayes, Dylan Moloney, and Michael Shanahan, took part in the Munster U-16 Football Tournament in Mick Neville Park. Limerick defeated Waterford by 6-21 to 1-4 and Tipperary by 1-10 to 0-11 to progress from the group. They were defeated by South Kerry 2-13 to 1-6 in the final. John Hayes, and Dylan Moloney were prominent in their scoring totals.
Saint Kieran’s defeated Templeglantine by 5-8 to 2-9 in Round 4 of the County Minor Hurling 13 -a-side Competition in Templeglantine on Friday July 7. Saint Kieran’s defeated Father Casey’s by 2-9 to 0-11 in Round 7 of the County Football League at Coolcappa on Tuesday July 11. They finished in fifth place, on six points in the eight team group in Division 1. They defeated Na Piarsaigh, Monaleen and Fr Casey’s, and lost to Rathkeale, Drom-Broadford, Newcastle West, and Saint Patricks. The Cúl Camp held in Coolcappa was a great success, with lots of fun and games for all the boys and girls who attended.
Kilcolman Rovers Ladies soccer club held their awards night at Neary’s Bar Ardagh on Friday July 7.Special awards went to Patrice Dowling, best player, achievement award from 2004 to 2014 Ide Trant, Maureen Noonan, best goal award, Sinead Donovan, young player of the season, Dora Bury, top scorer, Mary Lynch, best attendance award.
Congratulations to Niamh Foley, Old Mill and Saint Mary’s Athletic Club, who has been selected to complete at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Gyor Hungary which will be held at the end of this month. We wish her the best of luck as she will be a member of the 4x100m relay team.
Ardagh District Recreational and Sporting Company Ltd was set up earlier this year with the view to put in place a facility for all sections of the community in Ardagh/Carrigkerry/Coolcappa/Kilcolman, and surrounding areas. The plan is to provide an all weather playing surface, with floodlights, stop nets and enclosed fencing, with a new vehicular entrance roadway and car park at Ministerland/Cross Ardagh. This will cost a vast amount of money and fundraising will be vital to its success. The first major fundraising event Lip Sync Battle has been announced for Saturday November 11 at the Devon Inn Hotel Templeglantine. A prelaunch meeting to outline the details was held in early May and people have committed to take part in the show and as back up volunteers. The latest meeting was held in Ardagh hall on Thursday July 13 and a very enthusiastic crowd was present with lots of fundraising ideas, some bordering on the edge. David and Deirdre, on behalf of the committee, outlined the progress to date and the next steps required to progress the event.
Lip Sync is a relatively new fundraiser which involves acting out and singing along to a popular song on stage for two and a half minutes. The moves on stage and the costumes mix promises to be spectacular to showcase the talents assembled for the show. There will be 15 acts performing on the night, and from these one act will be crowned Lip Sync Champions. The acts will be put through a rigorous six week training schedule by a trainer/choreographer from October 1. Each of the 15 acts will be running their own fundraising events during the months of August and September. The list of events will be wide ranging to cater for all attendees, and will include many of the following; sports day food demonstration, nutrition workshop, raffle for signed Munster and Limerick jersey’s, drama, Irish Night, quiz, match score predictions, fashion show, sponsored walk, cake sale, clothes collection, scrap metal collection, duck race, dart tournament, hamper raffle, and lots more.
A special Lip Sync booklet will be published and will be available on the night, and the committee will be selling full and half page adverts, and all sponsors will be most welcome. Sponsorship cards are also available around the locality for people to support the event. Tickets will also go on sale later for the night at the Devon Inn, and they are expected to be in high demand to support the participants. This event promises to be a great community event, and it will bring all sections together with the one aim of providing this necessary facility. While people involved will need to do a lot of work it will be for only 17 weeks, and a lot of fun and entertainment will also be taking place along the way. The excitement is beginning to build and people interested in this type of entertainment are urged to get involved and to enjoy the journey with likeminded people, for the betterment of the community.
West Limerick 102 community Radio are holding a 50/50 draw at present. The tickets cost €2 and are available in local shops, and from the Station. This will be a weekly fundraiser for the Radio, and the draw will be held live on air each Friday at 12.45pm. The winning ticket holder receives half of the money collected that week and the Radio Station receives the other half. The latest winner was Nora Mary Doyle, Newcastle West, and the total won was €365. All support weekly to keep the station on air will be greatly appreciated.
Trocaire are holding a national Church collection in aid of East Africa this coming weekend July 22/23. All donations to fund life-saving aid for people currently affected by the devastating hunger crisis there will be greatly appreciated.
Ita McQuinn has organised a day trip to the traditional music festival in Kilrush County Clare on this Saturday July 22. A musical bus will depart from Assumpta Park, Newcastle West at 9am, with a stop in Killimer for morning refreshments. Names and deposit to Ita on 087-2593415
The annual Mass in Knockpatrick Foynes will be held on Sunday July 23 at 2.30pm. The venue is very elevated and it commands a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside.
The Shoestring Theatre Company summer season at the Schoolyard Theatre Charleville is ongoing at present. Their production of the Real Mc Coy is running at present and it is receiving a wonderful response. Two founding members of Ardagh Drama group are playing key roles in the laugh a second play written by Tommy Marren. Eilish Casey plays Madge Molloy the lady of the house, and Ger Liston plays husband Tom Molloy. The play is set over a two day period in a rural farmhouse in the 1960s, and the hilarious mishaps and surprising events that take place. It will be staged on July 22,23,27,28,29,30, and the curtain -up is at 8pm. To book contact 087-1804870
Our Lady’s Pastoral Area has organised a pilgrimage to Clonmacnoise, County Offaly and Saint Mel’s Cathedral, Longford on Saturday July 29.
