We held our Annual Awards Night last Friday night, July 23rd at The Top of the Town, Athea which was very well attended. The Awards Night is about reflecting back on the season and how our players did individually and collectively as part of a team. We had a decent year with the U14s winning the Division 3 league while the juniors preserved their premier league status.

The players of the year were presented with their awards, the U6s, U8s and U10s were presented with medals while the U14s were presented with their league winners medals.

Also on a league viewpoint the club congratulates James Broderick who was voted Desmond League U12 Division 3 player of the year.

Congratulations to Matthew Tierney  on his recent engagement to Michelle.

And also to John Geoghegan who has finally put the ring on Karen’s finger after many years.

Pitch Progress:

Further progress on the dugouts block work will be made this week to have them ready for roofing.

Meanwhile the fencing materials have arrived and we hope to start erecting it in July.

The pitch surface is very good and well maintained by David and Seamus given the amount of traffic on it.

Coiste na nÓg:

Our U14s had two matches last week, a challenge on Thursday June 15 against Ballylongford/Asdee in Asdee and a league game against Adare in Adare on Monday June 19. The game in Kerry played in windy conditions was a free flowing, high scoring affair, with our boys playing some excellent football and putting up a big score. The game in Adare played in the middle of our mini heat wave, was more lackluster, with some of our boys suffering from various forms of sunburn or heat stroke. We trailed at half time 2-5 to 0-4 and the game finished 4-6 to 1-7. There was very little between the teams but our marking when they had the ball left a lot to be desired.

Panel: Gavin Mulvihill, Cillian O’Connor, Gavin Ambrose, Gearoid O’Sullivan, Fergal Pierse, Pierce O’Brien, Brandon Finucane, Andrew O’Riordan, Paraic Enright, James Lee, Dermot Pierse, T.J. Hunt, Conor Mullane, Michael Tierney, James Broderick, Michael Walsh, Callum Buckley, Evan Curry, Eoin O’Shea and Daire O’ Shea.
