Kilcolman national school would like to thank Matty Histon of Drivewise School of Motoring Kilcolman, for his kind sponsorship of one hundred high viz vests, which he presented to all the school children on Thursday June 22. Matty was recently awarded a FETAC Level 6 in three grades by the Road Safety Authority and a ROSPA gold in advance driver training by Harrington’s driver training services. The grades are for drivers training log book, course for driver car instructions, and for pass rate on the driving test. Matty and James Dillon are the directors of the School of Motoring and over the years they have been very generous with their sponsorship. Matty has plans to visit the local schools in the near future for to give a briefing on road safety to the boys and girls.
The following are the Lottery results from the Old Mill Bar, on Monday June 19. The numbers drawn were9,16,18, and 27 and there was no Jackpot winner. The death has taken place of Mary Lane, nee Hanley, Clonoughter, Glin, and late of Monemohill, suddenly at her residence on Friday June 9. Her remains were removed to the church of the Immaculate Conception Glin on Sunday June 11 following repose at home. After Requiem Mass she was laid to rest in Kilfergus Cemetery. We extend our sympathy to her husband Den, son Pa, daughters Betty, Catherine, Maura and Anne Marie and extended family members. May she rest in Peace.
Plans have been announced to hold a weekend festival from Thursday July 27 to Sunday 30 in Carrigkerry. A meeting was held in Carrigkerry Community Centre on Tuesday June 20 and events announced were a concert, fun sports day, car boot sale, bartenders race, a bog walk, and turf footing competition. A Funfair will be in attendance also, and see the Facebook page for more details.
Sean Ryan from Kilcolman Rovers was a member of the Desmond League team that won the Kennedy Cup Plate final at UL on Friday June 16. They defeated North Dublin 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
The Saint Kieran’s trio of Johnny McCarthy, Darragh Treacy, and Sean Mc Sweeney were part of the Limerick football team that lost to Wexford by 0-12 to 0-11 in Round 1 of the All Ireland Qualifier at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday June 24. Johnny was playing in his 46th championship match for Limerick and Darragh, and Sean, got on the score sheet. In the West Junior B Football Championship Saint Kieran’s received a walkover from Saint Senan’s.
Envelopes have been distributed to each house in the Carrigkerry area to cover the cost of the Defibrillator training and all donations will be most welcome. The envelopes can be dropped into Carrigkerry Community Centre, Carrigkerry School or Moloney’s Shop on or before Friday June 30. Training was due to be held last Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and more details from Pat on 087-2750061.
VTOS Shanagolden are currently enrolling students for the next Academic Year QQI-Level 5 Information Processing ) which will commence in September. Participants must be over 21 years and in receipt of Social Welfare for at least six months. Mature students will be taught new skills in Computers, Communications, Accounting, Work Experience, and Art. People who join the programme can retain their Social Welfare entitlements, and receive travel and meal allowance, Childcare support under CETS, and Career Guidance. West Limerick 102 community Radio are holding a 50/50 draw at present. The tickets cost €2 and are available in local shops, and from the Station. This will be a weekly fundraiser for the Radio, and the draw will be held live on air each Friday on the Exchange programme.
The Pallatine Museum Rathkeale have announced the following opening times; In July and August it will open every afternoon including Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
The Old Mill Ladies Football Club will hold their sponsored walk on Sunday July 2 and sponsorship cards are now available. The club run a bonus lottery draw every Saturday night in the Ballintemple Inn, Newcastle West. It costs €2 per line to play and the club keeps half of what is collected and the other half goes to the lucky winner of the bonus ball.
The Rathfredagh Cheshire Home will hold their annual Garden Fete, on Sunday July 2 commencing at 1pm. The very popular wheel of fortune will be in operation for a large amount of prizes, and there will be lots of stalls to search through for good bargains. Children’s sports will be ran off and a large vintage display will be on site. Entertainment will be provided with lots of music and song and all support will be greatly appreciated.
Templeglantine Comhaltas will be holding their Seisiún Summer shows again this year as part of the national scheme. The opening show will be held on Thursday June 29 and continue weekly until mid August in the Devon Inn Hotel. The shows provide a wonderful display of traditional music song dance and story and large crowds attend each year. The shows commence at 8.45pm, and it is a great social occasion to take visitors to.
Coolcappa/Kilcolman parish have announced the following changeover of Mass times for the rest of the year, commencing this Saturday July 1at Saint Colman’s Church Kilcolman 7.30pm, and Sunday July 2 at Saint Kyran’s Church Coolcappa at 10am.

Saint Kieran’s club are holding their annual Cúl Camp in Coolcappa from Monday July 3 to Friday July 7 from 10am to 2.30pm. It provides boys and girls from 6-13 with a brilliant week of activities. West Limerick singing club will hold their next monthly singing night on Friday July 7 in the Ramble Inn in Abbeyfeale from 9.30pm. All singers, storytellers, entertainers, and audience members will be most welcome to come along and to join in the fun. On Friday August 4 Donie Lyons, a founding member will launch his new CD The Lovely Banks of Blaine, during the night. It features 22 tracks of music and song and all are welcome to come along.
The annual summer outing to Milltown Malbay to take in the Willie Clancy Festival has been set for Saturday July 8. The coach will leave from the usual location at the top of Sheehan’s Road Newcastle West at 9am sharp that morning. The group will take in music and dancing sessions during the day.
