Athea GAA

Junior B:

The Junior B team met St. Senan’s in Foynes on Monday evening last. There was a great turnout for the game, which was good to see, for both sides. It was a game that Athea could have won however St. Senan’s were victorious in the end on a scoreline  which read 0-12 to 1-13.

Div 2 League:

The next game for the Intermediates in the Division 2 League is on May 16th against Castlemahon. This will be played in Castlemahon and no doubt will be well supported.

Club Draw:

Again another reminder that the annual forthcoming Club Draw is ‘on the horizon’. There are some great prizes to be won each month over the 8 months and at €80 it’s well worth a chance! As well as that your are helping the club to further reduce the debt on the pitch and running/walking track. The draw is the main fundraiser for the club and it’s vital that as many as possible get behind the draw, especially if you have children involved in the football, as we all know the youth are ‘the backbone’ of the parish and sport helps them stay on the ‘straight and narrow’ so as to speak. The GAA are promoting direct debits to pay for one’s ticket, this will save sellers a lot of re-calling to people’s homes. So if you are in a position to have €10 a month taken out of your bank  account by direct debit over the 8 months it would be great.

Pitch Improvements:

Well the dug-outs are going to be started this week, which is great news – another asset to the pitch. The fencing is going to be erected at the end of June/beginning of July. Also planning permission has been granted for the lights around the running/walking track which again will enable everyone to be safer when the dark evenings approach.

If you haven’t been up at the pitch for a while, you are recommended to do so. At the minute with our ‘fine spell’ of weather it’s looking fantastic. And walk the entire surrounds along the track to see the full benefit of all the work that’s been accomplished with everyone’s help – you can all be proud of it having supported the ‘Lip-Sync’ and the Club draws. Incidentally DVDs of the Lip-Sync battles are now available and no doubt they will be a great keepsake to have in time to come when we can reminisce on what was an unreal night of entertainment. Any other ideas on fundraisers?
