Athea GAA


Our A.G.M. took place in the Clubhouse on Saturday night last and there was a large crowd in attendance. Chairman Paul Curry welcomed everyone and Secretary Jacqueline O’Connor read out the minutes of last year’s AGM. Jacqueline then gave a very detailed account on the year gone by in her secretary’s report. Our treasurer Mairead Donovan also gave a detailed account in her treasures report. Paul Curry thanked everyone who helped out in the Club during the year. Paul also thanked our ticket sellers, sponsors, ticket buyers, team managers and players. Paul had a special word of thanks for Jacqueline O’ Connor who stepped down as Secretary of the Club. Everyone enjoyed the light refreshments afterwards. Intermediate Football Championship Draw 2017:

There are two groups of six teams who will contest the Championship.

Group 1: Glin, Claughaun, Mungret, St. Senans Bruff & Galbally.
Group 2: Athea, Cappamore, Pallasgreen, Mountcollins & Castlemahon.

Round 1: Athea v Castlemahon

Round 2: Athea v Cappamore,
Round 3: Athea v Pallasgreen,
Round 4: Athea v Mountcollins,
Round 5: Athea v Gerald Griffins.

Lip Sync Battle:

The count down is on and the eagerly awaited Lip Sync battle takes place this Saturday night in the Devon Inn hotel. Tickets are now fully sold out. THERE WILL BE NO TICKETS FOR SALE AT THE DOOR. We wish to advise that there will be 450 – 500 seats available on the night, but the stage will be visible to all. There will also be screens erected to improve the audience’s experience. There will be no reserved seating (except for our VIP guests – who are our main sponsors). Doors open from 7pm. We are currently sourcing spot prizes for our raffle on the night – please get in touch with any member of the committee if you would like to donate.

Limerick GAA – Season Ticket 2017:
Limerick GAA recently launched their Season Ticket for 2017 with proceeds going towards the Limerick Senior Hurling training & development fund. The tickets cost €100 are now on sale. This would make an ideal present for the GAA fanatic in your household. The season ticket entitles the bearer to free entry to ALL Limerick County Board Club games in 2017, the option to purchase an All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final Ticket (if Limerick Senior Hurling team are involved) & Discounts available from a wide variety of outlets including Elverys, Limerick Greyhound Stadium, JJ Kenneally & Sons Jewellers, Irish Country Hotels, Limerick Race Course & Timmy Mac’s Bistro & more outlets to follow. Cards took place at The Top of the Town bar on Monday evening last. The winners with fourteen games were Jack O’ Connor Snr, David O’ Connor Jnr, Jack O’ Connor Jnr. In joint second place with twelve games each  were Jacqueline O’ Connor, David O’ Connor Snr, Mike Sheahan and Stevie Leahy, Mary Ita Leahy and Kieran Griffin. The winners of the table prize were Narrie Woulfe, Kathleen Griffin and Caroline Griffin. The raffle prize winners were Jack O’ Connor Snr, Patsy Ahern and Margaret McAuliffe. Many thanks to all those who supported our card game and we would be hoping to see you all again next week at the Top of the Town bar at 9pm sharp. This is part of the clubs fundraising for the pitch development which to date has cost €130,000. All monies raised will go towards reducing the debt of the pitch development.

The club extends its deepest sympathy to Pa Walsh and family Daltons Terrace, Athea on the sudden passing of his sister Patricia Dillon, Listowel last week.

Sympathy is extended to John Horgan and family, Rathronan, Athea on the passing of his wife Doris.
