‘Many Congrats’ 

Congrats and well done to the Athea/Mountcollins Rangers football team who, on Saturday afternoon last, had a very exciting game against St. Senan’s in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale in the West U21 ‘A’ final. The final score was 0.13 to 0.14 with Athea/Mountcollins having a ‘1 pt’ win!. They now meet ‘Tory Gaels’ the Croom/Crecora combination in the County semi-final this weekend (enquire re time and venue and support is very welcome.

Congrats are extended to Trish Phillips-Aherne on receiving the National Volunteer Award at the Community Games National area Volunteers and Media Awards night in the Salthill Hotel in Galway on Saturday 26th November. And what a deserving person Trish is and the amount of work she puts into the basketball with the young people.

Wedding bells rang out this week for Katie Collins (daughter of Kathleen and Paddy, Knocknagorna) when she married Neilius O’Connor (son of Birdie and Paddy of Moyvane). The nuptial ceremony was performed by Fr. Brendan Duggan here in Athea church. The best man was Willie Hanrahan and the groomsman was Mike Stanley. The bridesmaids were Elaine Tierney Collins, and Katherine O’Sullivan and the flowergirl was Hazel Hartnett. Everyone had a great day at The Devon Inn Hotel in Templeglantine. The newly weds are honeymooning in Mauritius-Las Vegas etc. Congrats and best wishes to them.

A new baby has been welcomed by Denise Scanlon and Michael Fogarty, a little boy they are naming Michael-Tim. A first grandson for Margaret and Tim, the delighted grandparents and a great grandson for Hannah Scanlon. Congrats to the proud parents, grandparents and great grandmother.

Congrats and well done to all those organizing and helping out with the annual Senior Citizens party on today Wednesday. No doubt everyone will have a thoroughly enjoyable day.

The AGM of Athea & District Credit Union will be held in the office on Friday night 16th December at 7pm. All members are invited to attend.

This Saturday, 10th December sees the anointing of the sick Mass at 11am taking place here in Athea church. You are asked if you have a neighbor or friend who may need a drive to the mass, to please help them to come along and attend this very special mass. Everyone is welcome.

The St. Vincent de Paul  wish to thank everyone who gave so willingly to their collection at the weekend.

Congrats to Siobhán Kelly and her partner Shane Ahern on the birth of their son, a little boy they are calling Brian Brendan. Congrats to the proud grandparents Sue and Kevin Kelly also.

Sympathy is extended to Kevin Kelly, his wife Sue and family on the recent death of his mother Eileen Kelly (nee Galvin). Her remains reposed at her son Kevin’s house in Templeathea before burial in Listowel cemetery after Mass the following day. The family, along with relatives from Tournafulla, Castlemahon and Listowel and the Athea community, are sincerely thanked for the expressions of sympathy and support at this sad time. ‘May she rest in peace’.
