Saturday November 19:

U21 West A Semi-final:

Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 2-11          Feohanagh/Knockaderry 1-05

Athea/Mountcollins Rangers U21s have qualified for the West final following a comfortable win over Feohanagh/Knockaderry for the second week in a row in Newcastle West. A strong team performance was the foundation for this victory with all players on top of their game for the hour. Three points from the boot of Stephen Cahill gave Athea/Mountcollins Rangers an early lead. Sean Ryan was next on the scoreboard when he scored a wonderful point after great work by his brother James.

Shortly afterwards Daniel Brosnahan dispossessed the full back, laid it off to Sean Ryan who rounded the goalkeeper and buried the ball to the net. The opposition tried hard to get into the game, but our backs were up for the challenge and a crucial save by Kieran Harnett in goals kept them at bay. Our second goal came five minutes later when James Ryan pounced and made no mistake raising the green flag to give us a ten point lead. Feohanagh/Knockaderry finished the half stronger scoring a goal and a point to leave the half time score Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 2-04, Feohanagh/Knockaderry 1-01. Feohanagh/Knockaderry started the second half with a well taken point inside the first three minutes but Mikie O’ Mahony rose the white flag for Rangers, when he scored a great point. The opposition came back again and scored two more points to close the gap to four and looked like making a comeback. But Athea/Mountcollins were having none of it when they score six points without reply, one from Sean Ryan, and four frees from the very impressive Stephen Cahill and one from Jason Kelly.

This ended the game as a contest as our boys were on top in all areas of the field. A late point from Feohanagh/Knockaderry left the final score Athea/Mountcollins Ranger 2-11, Feohanagh/Knockaderry 1-05. We are all looking to the final in early December and we are hoping that we will have a large crowd of supporters to cheer on the boys.
