The death has taken place of Breda Magner, née Condon, Coolanoran, Ardagh, on November 7 peacefully in the loving care of the matron and staff of Adare and District Nursing Home. Wife of the late Kevin. She lay in repose at Reidy’s Funeral Home, Newcastle West on Wednesday November 9 from 6-8p.m. Funeral arriving for Requiem Mass at 11.30am in St. Molua’s Church Ardagh on Thursday followed by burial afterwards in St. Mary’s cemetery Rathkeale. We extend our sympathy to her daughters Eileen, Mary and Teresa, sons Conor and Tom, daughter-in-law Louise, sons-in-law Declan and Georges, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces, nephew, sister-in-law and extended family. May she rest in Peace.
We extend our sympathy also to Julia and Denis Greaney and family Balliston, Kilcolman, on the death of Julia’s sister Betty Leahy, nee O’Connor, Castleview, and late of Assumpta Park, Newcastle West, who died peacefully in Milford Hospice on Friday November 4. Following repose at Reidy’s Funeral Home on Sunday November 6, her remains were removed to Newcastle West Church and she was laid to rest following Requiem Mass in Calvary Cemetery on Monday November 7. Our sympathy also to her husband Mike, son Michael, daughter Orla, son-in- law John Paul, daughter-in-law Joanne, extended family members, relatives and friends. May she rest in Peace.

Ray Brouder from Carrig Celtic was a member of the Desmond League team that drew 0-0 with West Cork in the opening round of the Oscar Traynor Inter-League Trophy competition played in Clounreask, Askeaton on Saturday November 5. Carrig Celtic B lost 5-0 at home to St Ita’s in Round 2 of the Richard Hogan Cup on the following day. In Division I of the Desmond Ladies League, Kilcolman Rovers defeated Kilbehenny 4-3 at home, with a brace of goals each from Maureen O’Mahony, and Dora Bury. Creeves Celtic defeated Carrig Celtic 3-1 away with goals from Angela Sheehan, Mairéad Cummane, and Olivia O’Keeffe, and Ellie Moloney replied for Carrig Celtic.
Congratulations to Old Mill players Sophie Hennessy, Iris Kennelly, Róisín Mann, Niamh Sparling, Ciara Brouder, and Ali Rose Ambrose, who represented the club in the under 15 Limerick Football Academy Munster Blitz that took place in Mallow on Saturday November 5. Congratulations also to Arianne Reidy, Roisin Ambrose, Katelyn Hayes, Geri-Mai O’Kelly, Kate Ambrose, Emma Duggan, Aishling McEnery, and Meadhbh Ambrose, who were on the Newcastle West camogie team that defeated Ballyagran/Newtownshandrum by 7-10 to 1-4 in the County Minor A Championship Final in The Bog Garden, Rathkeale on Sunday November 6.
Pat Curtin from Kilcolman was a member of the Irish Rambling House Group led by Joe Harrington and Kay O’Leary that embarked on a short tour of Britain over the October Bank Holiday. The group performed in venues in Manchester, Birmingham, Luton and London.
The organisers of the children’s Halloween Disco and Fancy Dress held in Coolcappa Community Centre, are delighted to announce that they raised €924.12. Thanks to all the children of the local primary schools parents, grandparents, and all who gave so generously. The presentation to a representative of Concern will be held on Wednesday November 16.

On this Thursday November 17 at 8.30p.m in Leen’s Hotel, Abbeyfeale a meeting of the Friends of the Great Southern Trail will take place. All supporters of the GST are welcome to attend. The meeting will be informed of the latest developments in Limerick where the Limerick City & County Council will be spending €1.3m on development and extension of the Greenway. An update on the state of play in North Kerry will also be presented to the meeting. The holding of a Christmas walk/cycle on Tuesday December 27 will also be decided along with other promotional events. The 2016 Feohanagh/Castlemahon parish annual will be launched by Con Colbert, (nephew of Con, who was executed on May 8 1916 following the Rising) in the new hall Castlemahon on this Thursday November 17 at 8pm. All subscribers to the journal and all interested are invited and welcome to attend. Tea and refreshments will be available followed by light entertainment following the launch.
The annual collection for the maintenance of Kilcolman Cemetery will be taken up on this coming weekend November 19/20, and all support for its upkeep would be greatly appreciated.
Limerick Rose Marie Hennessy from Rooskagh, Carrigkerry will perform the official opening of Noonan’s Lights in Templeglantine on Friday November 18, at 7.30pm. Santa will make his appearance to collect the children’s letters to take back with him to the North Pole for sorting and packaging for Christmas Eve deliveries. The proceeds from the winter wonderland will go to aid local charities, and all are welcome on the night to kick start this year’s event.
Saint Kieran’s GAA Club are holding their AGM in the Community Centre Ardagh on Friday November 18 at 8pm. All members are asked to attend and new people who would like to become involved will be most welcome.
Saint Kieran’s Heritage Association are holding a Pub quiz in Neary’s Bar Ardagh on Saturday November 19 at 9.30pm, and all support will be appreciated.
A dance in aid of Saint Ita’s Community Hospital, Newcastle West, will be held in the Devon Inn Templeglantine on Saturday November 19. The tickets cost €10 and they are available from committee members and Fiddlers Green will supply the music. The committee would appreciate spot prizes, which will be used for the raffle which will be held during the night. The proceeds from the night will be used in the construction, of a twelve bed extension for long term patients. They hope this facility will be completed in the next few years.
West Limerick 102FM Community Radio will present their Harvest Concert at Rathkeale House Hotel on Wednesday November 23 at 8pm sharp. It will feature a number of Munster’s best known entertainers: PJ Murrihy, Ella Marie O’Dwyer, Ann Phelan, Peter Burke, Tommy Mc Cauley, and Willie Relihan.
