DOUBLE HAT TRICKS AT THE VALES
Munster Junior Cup (Sun, Oct 16th)
Athea Utd (3) 6 Darren Murphy (3), Kevin Murphy (3)
Newcastle West (0) 2
A team scored six goals at The Vales for the second time in two weeks, but this time it was our turn, in the Munster Junior Cup. Darren and Kevin Murphy shared the 6 goals evenly between them. Darren had us two up with a well taken first and then one from the spot after Jamie Collins was fouled. Darren showed excellent pace for his first. Kevin put us three up with a great run and lethal finish before half time.
Newcastle got back into it making it 3-1 before Darren completed his hat trick with the finish of the game chipping the keeper from distance. Our ability to be slopping would show itself again as we conceded our second in very easy fashion. Kevin Murphy would complete his own hat trick as he chipped the keeper twice to finish the game. It wasn’t enough to take man of the match from his brother Darren however who fully deserved it for his overall performance. If they can continue to push each other in the league and we can be a bit tighter at the back we will hopefully see ourselves climb up the table when we return to league action, starting next Sunday away to Rathkeale.

As we prepare to enter the following phases of our development project, which includes the erection of a fence, flood lighting and a walking track, we are now offering an exciting and very new sponsorship opportunity.
Please send us a message on this or contact any member of the committee for more information
Pitch use:
At a time when our new pitch is well established we would hope that our club members make full use out of the high quality surface and goalposts. The more practice that a young player puts in the better they get. With the long evenings and dry pitch there is plenty of opportunity for players to use the pitch for practice in addition to training sessions. Some players are already doing so and the extra practice is serving them well. With the facilities we are developing combined with plenty of hard work and practice we won’t be long improving our results
Facilities long ago:
Submissions are invited from past members who can remember the contrast between pitches long ago and what the current players have available to them. We will add to our notes the best submission received in the next two weeks where the differences are best articulated. Submissions should be handed in to Rose’s shop/Brouders or emailed to [email protected] We would hope to invite further entries in the coming weeks on “long ago topics” from writers with good memories.

Match: Wednesday October 12:U13:
Our U13s travelled to Dromcollogher on Wednesday evening last to take on the locals, with the winners advancing to the County final. It was a game of two halves with us playing our best football in the first fifteen minutes. Our defenders were excellent and our mid field pairing of Eoin O’Shea and Andrew O’Riordan were dominant. While our forwards kept the Dromcollogher/Broadford defender on their toes. We opened the scoring after four minutes with TJ Hunt scoring a great point after good work by Daire O’Shea. Eoin O’Shea increased our lead with a well taken point and a few minutes later TJ Hunt got his second point of the night. We scored a great goal when Eoin O’Shea found the back of the net to give us a six point lead. Just before half time we gave away a sloppy goal which brought the home side back into the game. In the second half we had a couple of chances with scores but we failed to take them which would prove costly in the finish. Poor defending lead us to giving away a penalty which the home side converted. Following this we then conceded a number of goals and Dromcollogher/Broadford ran out easy winners in the finish. Despite the result this young team can look forward to the U14 league next year, as they are a very talented bunch of young footballers and have learnt valuable lessons in the past couple of weeks which I have no doubt will stand to them as they progress through the age groups. Panel: Donnchadh Barrett, Dermot Pierse, Brandon Finucane, Pierce O’Brien, James Lee, Michael Tierney, Paraic Enright, Eoin O’Shea, Andrew O’Riordan, Callum Buckley, Daire O’Shea, James Broderick, Conor Mullane, Gavin Ambrose, TJ Hunt, Adam Byrne, Gavin Mulvihill, Gearoid O’Sullivan & Cillian O’Connor.
Sunday October 16: U8s:
Our U8s were invited to take part in the Annual Nigel Bucke tournament hosted by Feohanagh/Castlemahon again this year. All our boys and girls did extremely well on the day, defeating Mountcollins in the first game, but unfortunately losing out to Knockaderry in the cup final. We would like to thank Feohanagh/Castlemahon for inviting us to take part and for the hospitality we received afterwards. It is greatly appreciated. Panel: Tomás Ahern, Jamie Flynn, Molly Hunt, Mille O’Sullivan, Patrick Healy, Daniel Hunt, Alice O’Sullivan, Caoimhe Ahern, Tony Ahern, Michael Ahern, Mark Ahern, Dylan Grainger & Tom Ahern.
Monday October 17: U13:
Our U13s received a walkover from Croom on Monday last. This is now the end of the U13 competition for us.
