Lip Sync Battle:
Plans are at an advanced stage for our ‘Lip Sync Battle’ Fundraiser on February 4th at Devon Inn Hotel. Our twitter page @AtheaGAA which currently has 440 followers will feature your business name
Our new look website will feature your business name and logowww.atheagaa.net
A DVD will also be recorded on the night which all main sponsors will feature in. This will ensure that long after the event is over, your business will continue to be advertised.
We very much hope to make our main sponsors a part of the event on the night so as an added bonus; we will also offer a VIP package which will include two complimentary tickets, front row seating and a complimentary DVD of the night.
As we prepare to enter the following phases of our development project, which includes the erection of a fence, flood lighting and a walking track, we are now offering an exciting and very new sponsorship opportunity.
Please send us a message on this or contact any member of the committee for more information.
Pitch use:
At a time when our new pitch is well established we would hope that our club members make full use out of the high quality surface and goalposts. The more practice that a young player puts in the better they get. With the long evenings and dry pitch there is plenty of opportunity for players to use the pitch for practice in addition to training sessions. Some players are already doing so and the extra practice is serving them well. With the facilities we are developing combined with plenty of hard work and practice we won’t be long improving our results.
Facilities long ago:
Submissions are invited from past members who can remember the contrast between pitches long ago and what the current players have available to them. We will add to our notes the best submission received in the next two weeks where the differences are best articulated. Submissions should be handed in to Rose’s shop/Brouders or emailed to [email protected]
We would hope to invite further entries in the coming weeks on “long ago topics” from writers with good memories.

Monday October 3:
U13:
Our U13s had their first outing on Monday last when they travelled to Crecora to take on Kilpeacon. For some of our team it was their first time playing competitive football on a full size pitch. Having won the toss, we chose to play against the strong wind and despite having a lot of possession in the first ten minutes; it was the opposition who opened the scoring with a point. Midway through the half we got our first point of the game when Andrew O’ Riordan blazed over the bar. The home side went in front again, but we were soon level when James Broderick scored a great point after great work by Daire O’ Shea. A minute later Daire set up his brother Eoin who sent the ball crashing to the back of the net for a great goal. We were caught napping in the last minute of the half and conceded two soft goals to go in at the break three points down. In the second half, Athea upped a gear and kicked some wonderful scores. Great performances from Andrew O’ Riordan, Michael Tierney and Eoin O’ Shea controlled the middle of the park. Our young players James Lee, James Broderick and Callum Buckley stepped up to the plate and played outstanding. Overall this was a fantastic team performance with eight different scorers on the night. The final score read Athea 2-12, Kilpeacon 3-02. We will play Patrickswell at home on Monday evening next at 6.15pm. All support would be greatly appreciated. Panel: TJ Hunt, Dermot Pierse, Brandon Finucane, Pierce O’ Brien, Paraic Enright, Michael Tierney, James Lee, Eoin O’ Shea, Andrew O’ Riordan, Gearoid O’ Sullivan, Daire O’ Shea, Callum Buckley, Cillian O’ Connor, Gavin Ambrose, James Broderick and Conor Mullane.

FAI Junior Cup (Sun, Oct 2nd)
Athea Utd (0) 1 Gerard Ahern 63 mins
Tralee Dynamoes (1) 2 29 & 88 mins
We bowed out of the FAI Cup after conceding a late goal at home to Tralee Dynamos on Sunday. It was a game we will feel like we should have won as we created many more chances and enjoyed the majority of possession. We were very unlucky to be one down at half time as we had let a few chances to by. Dynamoes took the lead through a free kick not long before the break showing that at this level teams will punish you when given the chance. Until then we had looked strong at the back and confident in possession.
The second half continued in much the same way with the game being very tight with both teams showing good quality. We got a deserved equaliser when man of the match Gerard Ahern got the one piece of luck we deserved when his dangerous corner deceived everyone and went in directly from the dead ball. We had a great chance to go in front two minutes later when we were awarded a penalty but we didn’t avail of this opportunity. The Murphy brothers were proving s handful for the Dynamoes defence while Michael Reidy and Jamie Collins were also getting forward well from the fullback positions. We again were to be caught late on however when the game looked to be heading for extra time. It was a disappointing end but a great overall performance that we hopefully can carry into our next league game.
