Matches:
U16:
Athea 1-08 Bruff 5-09
Our U16s played their first match in the new field against a very strong and physical Bruff side on Monday evening last. In a fairly evenly contested first half Bruff opened the scoring, but we were soon on level terms when Andy Ahern scored a great point. The visitors then scored a goal and a few points to take a commanding lead, but we fought our way back into the game and scored a goal and a few points of our own thanks to the accuracy of John Sexton from frees. The half time score read Athea 1-05, Bruff 2-06 so it was all to play for in the second half. We closed the gap the two points early in the second half thanks to a point from John Sexton and a great point from our wing back David O’ Connor. Unfortunately it was Bruff who got the scores to win the game, despite the best efforts of our boys. Best for Athea on the night were, Shane Ambrose, David O’ Sullivan, David O’ Connor, John Sexton, Andy Ahern & Jack O’ Connor. Team: David O’ Sullivan, Joseph Dalton, Shane Ambrose, Pierce O’ Brien, David O’ Connor, Andy Ahern, Brian English, John Sexton, Jason Dillon, TJ White, Cathal O’ Brien, Luke Gleeson, Jack O’ Connor, Aidan Curry, Ryan Greaney, Andrew O’ Riordan, Eoin O’ Shea, Gavin Ambrose, Jack Hunt & Evan Wallace.
