Parish Tournament 2016

As part of the Parish Festival Athea Utd ran a very successful underage tournament last Saturday afternoon in the Community Hall at 2 pm. We had four teams taking part with each team playing each other once with the top two going through to the final.

Tournament results are as follows –

Ireland 3 Northern Ireland 2

England 1 Wales 1

Northern Ireland 0 England 2

Wales 4 Ireland 0

Ireland 0 England 4

Northern Ireland 3 Wales 2

As a result of the above games Wales and England qualified for the final. Calum Gleeson put England ahead but Wales rallied and goals from James Broderick, Alex Quinn and Gearoid O’Sullivan put them in a strong position. Calum got his second of the final to bring England back into the game but Wales defended their lead to win the parish tournament. After the final all the players proceeded to the kitchen area where all were presented with medals and Wales captain Ciaran Hunt was presented with the Parish Tournament Cup by Athea Utd Secretary / PRO Pat Mulvihill.

The club would like to thank Tim Sexton for helping out with the teams and the running of the tournament on Saturday. Thanks also to Steven McEnery who refereed all the games at the tournament and to Mike Buckley and Kevin O’Keeffe who got the names and made out the various teams

An exclusive FAI Summer Soccer School kit, football, and backpack is provided for all children who enrol on our camp this year.
