The death has taken place of Sheila Nugent, nee Brouder, Drewscourt East, Ballyagran, mother of the late Sheila and wife of the late Michael. Sheila was a daughter of the late Con and Frances Brouder of Kerrikyle, Ardagh. She lay in repose at Hawe’s Funeral Home, Charleville, on Thursday, June 9th from 6pm. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated at Colmanswell Church on Friday at 2pm with burial afterwards in Colmanswell Cemetery. We extend our sympathy to her children Frances, Michael, Con, Jackie, Anne Marie, Jamie, Tony, sister Frances, Kerrikyle, aunts, uncles, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May she rest in Peace.

We extend our sympathy to Mairéad Adams and family, Cahermoyle, Ardagh, on the death of her brother Joe Brouder, Templeathea and Colbert Street, Athea, on Tuesday, May 31st. May he rest in Peace.

Congratulations to Adam Teskey from Reens, Ardagh and the Fine Gael party who has been selected as Cathaoirleach of the Adare, Rathkeale Municipal district. Adam was co-opted onto the Council last March following the election of Tom Neville to Dáil Eireann.

Congratulations to John Hayes, Knockfinisk and Carrig Celtic FC who has been announced as the Limerick Young Sports Star of the Month for May. He won the award following his displays for the Desmond Schoolboy’s League who won the National U-15 Inter League Cup in May. John plays in midfield and he led by example as captain of the team during the competition. Son of Catherine and Dennis, he is an all-round sports person who has a bright future ahead of him.

Congratulations to Emma Daly, Kilcolman and a student at Coláiste Mhuire Askeaton, who was presented with her Bronze Gaisce award at the school on Wednesday, May 25th.

The following are the Lottery results from Reens Bar, Ardagh on Monday June 6th. The numbers drawn were 7,11,19,28, and there was no Jackpot winner. Congratulations to the lucky dip winners who each won €40. Congratulations to Alva Neary, Ardagh, from the Old Mill Club, who was one of five Limerick players picked  at no 2 on the Division 4 Ladies National Football team of the season.

Carrig Celtic defeated Pallaskenry 4-3 away in Division 1 of the Desmond League on Sunday, June 5th. Ray Cahill, 2, Seanie King, and Donal Nolan, scored their goals. Carrig Celtic finished runners up to Athea Utd and they will play in the Premier Division next season. Creeves Celic lost 3-2 away to Shountrade, in Division 2 and are relegated to Division 3 along with Old Mill, who finished last. Carrig Celtic B lost 5-0 away to Knockaderry in Division 3 Group A of the League Cup.

Congratulations to Leah Hayes and Sophie Liston from the Old Mill Ladies Football Club who assisted the Desmond Ladies League who participated in the Gaynor Cup Competition held recently in UL. The team finished in seventh position.

Congratulations to all the local competitors who competed and were successful at the Limerick County Fleadh Cheoil, held in Glin over the June Bank Holiday weekend. It was a great few days of entertainment in glorious weather by the banks of the Shannon Estuary.

The Irish Palatine Heritage Centre in Rathkeale is currently open at certain times to visitors during the month of June. It will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm. It will be also open each Sunday during the months of July and August at the same hours and all are welcome.

The following Mass time changes for Ardagh/Carrigkerry parish were introduced last weekend. Mass will be celebrated in Saint Mary’s Church, Carrigkerry on Saturday at 6.30pm and in Saint Molua’s Church, Ardagh on Sunday at 11am. This change is for the foreseeable future.

People are reminded that Eucharistic Adoration, is held in Saint Molua’s Church, Ardagh, on Mondays from 11am to 1pm and 5pm to 9pm.

The annual Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from Tuesday 21st, to Sunday 26th June. Contact the Lourdes Pilgrimage Office, on 061-314111 during office hours from Monday to Friday. Early booking is recommended as prices vary with the different hotel choices.

Coolcappa Parents Association will hold a used clothing collection from Tuesday 21st to Thursday 23rd June. Bags can be dropped into the school (before or after school) on any of these dates.

The All-Ireland Feile Peil Competition will be held from Friday 24th June to Sunday 26th June. It will be hosted by clubs from West Limerick, North Kerry and North Cork and Saint Kieran’s club will be participating. With over 250 clubs taking part it is now considered the largest sporting event for children in Europe.

Saint Kieran’s will hold their Cul Camp in Coolcappa from Monday 4th July to Friday 8th

The camp caters for primary school children from the age of 6 to 13 years. The cost for the first child is €55 second child is €45and €40 for the third child and so on. An action packed and fun filled week of activity is promised. The Youth 2000 Summer Festival will be held in the Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co Tipperary from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th July. The festival is a four day celebration of faith for young people aged 16-35. It is an action packed programme of events, with inspiring talks, workshops, testimonies, prayer, music, drama and lots more.
