The Limerick GAA Club draw for April was held at Limerick Live 95FM during the Sports Programme on Saturday May 7th. Congratulations to Thomas Keane, and Noel Fitzgerald from the Saint Kieran’s club who won the seventh prize of €500.  Congratulations also to former club member Michael Barrett, Rathkeale who won €250. Congratulations to Paddy Donovan, Glenastar, Ardagh who was awarded second place in the All Ireland Bone playing competition held in Abbeyfeale on Monday May 2nd. Congratulations to James O’Connor, Kilcolman and fellow musicians who won the senior category of the Busking competition.

Saint Kieran’s were defeated by Drom/Broadford by 1-12 to 0-14 in Group 2 of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship in Newcastle West Gaelic Grounds on Friday May 6. They trailed by 1-7 to 0-6 after facing the wind at half time, and were six points in arrears with ten minutes remaining. A spirited finish cut the deficit to just one point, but time ran out. It was a game that they could have got a result in, despite little preparation due to the football Championship. Saint Kieran’s defeated Granagh/Ballingarry/Banogue by 3-12 to 1-13 in Round 1 of the West Minor A and B Football Championship at Coolcappa on Friday April 29th.

Carrig Celtic defeated Pallaskenry 2-1 at home in Division 1 of the Desmond League on Sunday May 1. Francis Moore and Seanie King scored their goals. They defeated Feenagh 6-3 away the previous Friday night, with Seanie King, 3 Sean O’Connor, Ray Cahill, and Ray Brouder, scoring their goals. They are in second place 4 points behind Athea Utd in the race for the title. Creeves Celtic defeated Bally Rovers 2-1 away in Division 2 with goals from Jason Ahern, and Mark Hennessy. Carrig Celtic B lost 1-0 at home to Pallaskenry B in the Division 3 League Cup.

Knockdown Vintage and Estuary Macra, presented a cheque for €4,085.76 to the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation at the Knockdown Arms on Saturday April 30th. The money was collected during their Vintage/Modern Road Run and Raffle held on Sunday April 10th.

The sum of €360 was collected in Coolcappa/Kilcolman, Parish which will go to aid those living in poverty in the refugee camps over the past three years in the Ukraine.

Jan O’Sullivan TD, Minister for Education and Skills, has approved Summer works funding for Ardagh National School. The funding is provided to improve and upgrade existing school buildings, and the majority of the work will be carried out over the Summer months. This is to minimise disruption to the students, teachers and other school staff.

The Rosary will be recited each evening during the month of May at 7pm, at Churchtown Grotto, Newcastle West. The annual Mass will be celebrated there on Tuesday 17th May at 7.30pm and all are welcome.

A Get Together for people who attended the three second level schools in Newcastle West from 1971 to 1976 and finished anytime between those years is being organised for Friday 3rd June in the Ballintemple Inn. The three schools were the Convent, Secondary (Jim Breen’s) and the Vocational. Now forty plus years later plans are being put in place to recall past pupils and school times. The annual Parish Clerk’s collection will be taken up in Ardagh/Carrigkerry on the weekend of Saturday 14th/Sunday 15th May. People are asked to be as generous as possible with their donations, to show their appreciation for the work that is being done by John Joe and Eileen in both churches

Saint Kieran’s GAA Club will hold their annual church gate collection in Kilcolman on Saturday 14th May and in Coolcappa and Ardagh, on Sunday 15th May.

St Senan’s and District Community Alert will hold their A.G.M on Thursday 19th May in Shanagolden Hall at 8pm and all are welcome.

The Dromcollogher May Fair/Vintage Rally takes place in the village grounds on Sunday 22nd May. The organisers would welcome bric-a-brac, plants, jams and appropriate items for the auction which will be held in the afternoon.

Newcastle West Film Club will present A Walk in the Woods as part of the Bealtaine Festival in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Thursday 26th May at the earlier time of 7pm. Admission is free, refreshments are available and all are welcome.

Saint Kieran’s club are holding a fundraiser at Limerick Greyhound Track on Friday 27th May. Contact Secretary Ivan Neary on 0876577541for full details on how to get involved and support the club.

The Milford Care Centre 5k Memorial Walk will be held on Sunday 29th May. It is necessary to register for the event on www.eventmaster.ie and there is no entry fee.
