Youths Division 2 (Sat, April 9th)

Athea Utd 0

Broadford Utd 0

The top two sides in division two met at The Vales last Saturday afternoon as we faced joint leaders Broadford Utd. When the sides met in Broadford on March 5th it ended all square at two apiece and another close contest was envisaged and that’s how it transpired again on this occasion. Only difference in this meeting was the lack of goals as defenses in general dominated, especially both sets of central defenders who were very solid throughout. Both keepers had saves to make but these were of the routine variety.

As it stands we both have one league game left, our game is away to Pallaskenry, so plenty to play for yet.

Team: Mareks Apinis, Michael Ambrose, Evan Woulfe, Cillian Liston, Michael Dalton, John Sexton, Sean Ryan, James Ryan, Andy Ahern, Liam McAuliffe, Adam Riordan. Subs used JJ Sheehy, Jack Vaughan, Milan Williams.
Referee: John Roche

Matches:

Friday April 8:

U10s:

The U10s played their first blitz of the year in a cold Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Friday night last. They played two matches against Castlemahon and St. Senans. We had fifteen players to pick from and they all played their hearts out in two excellent performances. The highlight move of the night was started with a pinpoint kick-out from Callum Buckley to Rory Cleary on the left wing, Rory caught the ball first time and turned to give a forty yard cross field pass to Tadhg Ahern who fielded brilliantly and passed straight away to the flying Jack Sexton, without hesitation Jack kicked the ball over the crossbar for a mighty point, amid great applause from the supporters. Panel: Evan Curry, Tadhg Ahern, Sean Twomey, Timmy ‘ O’Keeffe, Brid Hunt, Jim Ahern, Rory Cleary, Callum Buckley, Fionn Histon, James Hunt, Ciaran Hunt, Emma Vaughan, Jack Sexton, Louis O’ Sullivan and Ailísa Ahern.

Monday April 11

U15:

Our U15s travelled to Croom on Monday evening last and despite their best efforts were well beaten on the night by a physical home side. Panel: Evan Wallace, Eoin Sheahan, Alex McEldowney, Brandon Finucane, Michael Tierney, Jamie O’ Mahony, Thomas McEnery, David O’ Connor, TJ White, Brian English, Jack O’ Connor, Danny Brady, Padraig McMahon, Aidan Curry, Colin Broderick, Andrew O’ Riordan, Jack Hunt, Luke Gleeson, Adam Byrne & Sean Sheehan.

National School Teams:

The School entered a boys and girls team in the mini 7 competition which was held in Mick Neville Park on Wednesday last. Unfortunately the girls lost out to a strong Dromcollogher team in the first round. The boys had better luck reaching the semi final stage of the competition. In the first round they played Cappagh and after a thriller of a match they eventually won in the second period of extra time. They then beat Courtney boys school NCW, to reach the semi final against St. Marys boys school Abbeyfeale. They tried hard in this game, but it was the opposition who came out on top at the final whistle.

Boys Panel: Gavin Mulvihill, Pierce O’ Brien, Daire O’ Shea, TJ Hunt, Andrew O’ Riordan, Adam Byrne, Jack Vaughan, Dermot Pierse and Gearoid O’ Sullivan.

Girls Panel: Shauna Sweeney, Sarah Scanlon, Nicole Ahern, Denise Carmody, Molly Ahern, Shonagh O’ Mahony, Kelly Murphy, Aisling Dalton, Becky O’ Connor, Courtney Carroll & Lydia Murphy.

Our visiting club is Warwickshire and they will bring twenty four players who will stay with host families in our Parish for the weekend. This is a great opportunity for our U14 team to take part in a National Football competition and it also gives all involved the chance to make new friends with players from clubs outside Limerick.
