Athea United Soccer

U12 Division 3 (Sat, February 13th)

Athea Utd     (2) 5   Mountcollins (1) 1

Our twelves maintained their unbeaten record in the league with a five one win over Mountcollins at The Vales last Saturday afternoon. The first half saw few chances but enough to give us a narrow lead at half time. We opened the scoring through Fergal Pierse and James Broderick restored our lead before half time after Mountcollins had earlier equalized. The second half saw the Athea side improve and we created a good few chances and were rewarded with three further goals, Gearoid O’Sullivan making it three before Michael Walsh added two more goals to cap off a good display, especially in the second half.

Team: Gavin Mulvihill, Evan Curry, Callum Buckley, Calum Gleeson, Daire O’Shea, Fergal Pierse, Gearoid O’Sullivan, Michael  Walsh, James Broderick, Rory O’Mahony, Killian O’Connor, Donnacha Barrett, James Lee. Referee: Pat King.

Desmond Cup 1st Round (Sun, February 14th)

Athea Utd     (0) 0 Rathkeale A  (1) 2

We faced premier side Rathkeale A in the first round of the Desmond Cup last Sunday morning and it was the visitors that left The Vales with a two nil win. On reflection the score line was about right as while we had a few chances the away side had the quality on the day. This was our first defeat since losing to Glin Rovers in the Munster Junior Cup so hopefully we can get on another good run.

Team: Pa Ahern, Mike Reidy, Mathew Tierney, Padraig Reidy, Martin Chawke, Steven McEnery, Kevin Murphy, Joe Vaughan, Jamie Collins, Darren Murphy, Dylan Griffin. Subs Gerard Ahern John Cotter, Jonathan Mulvihill. Referee: Donie O’Gorman.
