“THREES ALL AROUND”

Division 1 League (Sun, January 17th)

Feenagh      (0) 1

Athea Utd (2) 3             Kevin Murphy (3)

After almost two months of inactivity (Sunday November 8th being our last game) soccer resumed with a number of fixtures finally beating the weather. One of those was our junior game away to Feenagh where we recorded a hard earned three one win. Athea dominated the early exchanges and had a few chances before we broke the deadlock when Kevin Murphy finished clinically for his sixth goal of the season. The midfielder got his and our second of the game five minutes before half time when he showed great control to create an opening for himself and his finish matched the build up to fire past the keeper. Half time 2-0 to Athea.

The trend more or less continued in the second half with our front two of Dylan Griffin and Darren Murphy keeping the home defence on their toes while the midfield of Steven McEnery, Gerard Ahern, Shane Mulvihill and Murphy creating chances for our two up front. With ten minutes left we made it three nil when Murphy completed his hat trick and his eighth goal of the season, due mainly to the unselfishness of brother Darren who could have scored himself but played the ball to Kevin to get his first hat trick of the season. Just before the end Feenagh got one back from the penalty spot Full time 3-1.
