ATHEA UTD CHARITY SOCCER TOURNAMENT
Athea Utd again organized a charity tournament on our Astro Turf at The Vales on St Stephen’s Day and this year the money raised is going to The Going Strong. The first game was timed for 11am and all the games went smoothly. We had some close games, especially the semi finals which both went to penalties while just the one goal separating the two teams in the final.

PRESENTATIONS
The presentations of the trophies took place at The Top of the Town that evening. The winning team, Magic Mike were presented with their winning medals by club secretary Pat Mulvihill and who presented winning captain Michal Reidy with the cup.
The other awards went to Dylan Griffin (player of the tournament), Kevin Murphy (goal of the tournament) and Kevin O’Keeffe (save of the tournament).

Thanks to all the players who took part, thanks to Pat King who refereed all the games, to Denise O’Riordan who provided the hot beverages and sandwiches which were most welcome, to TJ Reidy whose canopy kept the supporters dry from the rain. Thanks to Kevin O’Keeffe, John Hunt and Pa Walsh for their work in organising the tournament and to John who was MC on the day. A big thanks to Betty & Johnny of The Top of the Town who sponsored the trophies and medals and for the food that night. We raised over €700 for the Going Strong and the club would again like to thank everybody who made the day such a success.

Medal Presentation
After a very successful year on the playing front, our Intermediate team were presented with medals having won both the County League- Division 3 and also the West Limerick Championship. Seamus McNamara, former Athea player and current County Board Assistant Secretary, made the presentations.
A great night was had by all in attendance on the night.
AGM:
Athea GAA Senior Club AGM takes place this Saturday January 9th in the Clubhouse at 9pm. All are welcome to attend.
Sympathy:
Athea GAA club would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the Curtin family, Moyvane on the passing of Patrick Curtin. May he rest in peace.

Table Quiz:
Many thanks to all those who supported our table quiz on Monday Dec. 28th. Thanks to all who kindly gave spot prizes on the night and to Johnny and Betty Cotter of the Top of the Town Bar.
Winter Welly Walk:
A big thank you to all who took part in our Winter Welly Walk on Friday last. Both young and old enjoyed a very interesting walk through fields, forestry, a ring fort and mountain tops. John Hunt was an encyclopedia of local history for the two hour walk. Many thanks to all those who helped out on the day.

If there is anyone who would like to get involved in any way with any of our underage teams, especially with our U6s & U8s in 2016 please contact Jacqueline O’ Connor on 086-0670091. We have a great club and we would love for parents to join our fantastic team of coaches for the coming year.

Our 2016 Calendar is on sale now at Rose’s shop and Collins’ shop at a cost of €10. It has loads and loads of pictures from the year gone by in Coiste na nÓg. These would make a lovely present for people both home and abroad.
