U21 County Premier Football Championship Quarter Final:
Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 1-07 Rathkeale/Cappagh 2-19
After the highs of last year, there was disappointment all around when our U21s bowed out of this year’s championship at the quarter final stage. The conditions were terrible and we were playing into a strong wind in the first half. We opened the scoring when Shane Mulvihill scored a great point after two minutes, but it went all downhill after that. A clinical Rathkeale/Cappagh outfit totally dominated the rest of the half, scoring thirteen unanswered points, some of them right out of the top drawer. A Mikie O’Mahony point just before the break left eleven points between the teams, Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 0-02, Rathkeale/Cappagh 0-13.
We needed a massive effort to turn this around in the second half but it was not to be, two early goals by the opposition ended this game as a contest. We kept fighting until the end, points from Maurice Hayes, Shane Mulvihill, Kevin Murphy, Matthew Brouder were added to by a great goal by Shane Mulvihill which left the final score Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 1-07, Rathkeale/Cappagh 2-19.
Thanks to the Managers Patrick Ahern and Michael Lenihan, Trainer Humphrey Doody and Physio Brigid Cahill for the time and effort they put into the team. A big thanks to all the supporters who travelled to support our boys.
