‘Out & About’

Congrats and good wishes go to Denny Mulvihill, Colbert Street, who celebrated his 70th birthday along with his wife Mary T. and family at “The Old Stand” in Shanagolden on Saturday night last. They were joined by relatives and friends later on that night and all had a very enjoyable time. Denny can be seen cycling all over the country on his bike – no doubt “the recipe” for youthfulness!

We welcome to the parish baby William Aherne of Parkana, a new son for Louise and Francis and a little brother for Tom, Lucy and Grace. Congrats to the proud grandparents also Eibhlís and Leo Geoghegan of Gortnagross.

Congrats are extended to Diarmuid and Áine of O’Riordan’s Pharmacy who celebrate 10 years in business this weekend with a party from 2-4pm with spot prizes, discounts, cake, fun etc on the day. The pharmacy is a great asset to our village and here’s to many more years of good business to them both

The last few days to buy tickets for the fundraising dance on this Saturday night for brave little Ella Aherne of Garrygloss. Joe O’Keeffe will be providing the music at the Top of the Town and there will be spot prizes etc. Ella is wished all the very best on the road to recovery.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Val and Dr. Kieran Murphy on the tragic death of Val’s sister Martina O’Brien in Holland last week. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go to all the family. ‘May the light of heaven be hers’

The whole world is in a ‘state of shock’ these past few days following the atrocities and shooting of innocent victims in Paris over the weekend. It could have been any country and anyone’s mother, father, brother, sister or child. One wonders what sort of brainwashing these individuals have been put through, to go on such a rampage and then blow themselves up. Are we safe anywhere any longer?

Following recent Community Hall meetings it was proposed to put in bright LED, long lasting, guaranteed bulbs in the sports hall. These are expensive but most efficient in the long run. The small hall floor, it is hoped, will be re-varnished in the near future also. Our fundraising Christmas Fair will take place this Sunday from 11am to 4pm. Last year was a great success with loads on offer for Christmas. If you need to book a table to sell your goods you can do so by ringing Caroline on 086-2247408. Please come along and support your  hall and you could pick up gifts for Christmas.
