The presentation of the Tricolour, and the 1916 Proclamation, was held at Carrigkerry N.S. on Monday November 9. Corporal Brian Devine and Sergeant Ger Troy made the presentation and they were very well received by all the pupils. Sergeant Michael Shanahan and Corporal John O’Reilly had a similar experience after making the presentation in Coolcappa N.S.

We extend our sympathy to the Dillane family, Glenastar, Ballinabearna and Kerrikyle on the death of Margaret’s husband Martin Igoe, Kilfree, Gurteen, Co Sligo which occurred on Monday, November 16. May he rest in Peace.

We extend get well wishes to popular Ardagh postmaster John Curley who is unwell at present. A speedy recovery to John and all others who are recovering from illness, at home, in hospital or in nursing homes.

Team Hope would like to say a heartfelt thanks to the pupils, parents, teachers and staff of Carrigkerry and Kilcolman schools for their gift filled shoe boxes which will go to needy children in Africa, Syria and Eastern Europe.

The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary with Milford Hospice Friends Association, wish to thank most sincerely all who contributed so generously towards the annual church gate collection, taken up before Mass at Coolcappa Church on Saturday November 14. The amount collected was €241.50 and a special thanks also to the collectors who gave so willingly of their time.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Granagh/Ballingarry by 4-11 to 1-6 in the West U-21 B Football Championship played at Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Saturday November 14.

Jason Mullins, and his officials from the club was the referee for the County Junior B Football Championship Final played on Sunday November 15. Fedamore defeated Crecora, by 1-7 to 0-7 at Croom.

The West Limerick Scór na Nóg finals were held in Saint Molua’s Community Hall on Sunday November 15.

All Desmond League fixtures for men and ladies were called off on Sunday November 15 due to inclement weather.

Deirdre Scanlon from Monagea was featured on Ear to the Ground on RTE 1 on Tuesday November 17. She is a community guard based in Ennistymon, County Clare for the past four years. Presenter Helen Carroll joined Deirdre for a day to report on the work she does in the rural areas visiting schools, clubs and houses imparting and advising safety information. She grew up the only girl of four on a farm and is a member of the force since 2002. She is a widely known and much travelled traditional singer as well and often performed in local outlets in the parish.  She has competed in Scór, and Comhaltas competitions and is regularly featured on local Radio stations.  Eileen McMahon, Barna Hill and the Sweet Banks of the River Feale are her most requested songs.

 

Carrig Celtic F.C. present Santa’s Grotto in Carrigkerry Community Centre on Sunday 13th December at 2.30pm. It will be followed by fun and games with prizes and a Disco. The cost is €10 per child and forms are available from the usual outlets. Please return the form and the money by Monday 30th November.

Carrig Celtic are holding their annual 300 Club Draw in the coming weeks, and promoters are signing up members at present. It costs €10 a month or €50 for the five months. First Prize €1,000, second Prize €250 and three prizes of €50 each month. There is a special once off prize of a €200 shopping voucher at Moloney’s Shop for fully paid up members.

Saint Kieran’s GAA Club are holding a Christmas draw this year, and tickets will be on sale in the coming weeks. There will be lots of prizes on offer, and the proceeds will go towards the field development. Rathkeale and District Historical Society will hold a talk in The Arts Centre Rathkeale on Friday 27th November at 8.30pm. The topic is Old Postcards from around and about the county of Limerick and admission is free. It is presented by Canon Donough O’Malley and all are welcome.

 

The 35th edition of the Castlemahon/Feohanagh parish annual will be launched by Liam Irwin, Professor of Irish History at Mary Immaculate College Limerick in the new hall in Castlemahon on Saturday 28th November at 8.30pm. All are welcome

West Limerick 102 FM Community Radio are holding a car boot sale and indoor market at Newcastle West Community Centre on Sunday 29th November from 8am to 1pm. All support will be appreciated.

St Ita’s Community Hospital Newcastle West are holding a remembrance Mass for deceased residents and staff in the Hospital Chapel on Sunday 29th November at 2.30pm. Family members and friends are welcome to attend.

The County Finals of Ceol an Gheimhridh 2015 will be held in Shanagolden Community Hall on Sunday 29th November. Shanid Comhaltas branch will host the competition which is confined to Comhaltas members. The age categories are Under 13 and 13-17 and the relevant information and entry forms have been sent to all the Comhaltas branch secretaries.

West Limerick Singing Club will hold their monthly session on Friday 4th December in the Ramble Inn Abbeyfeale. A warm welcome to all singers, storytellers and interested people to attend.

Newcastle West Film Club present Clouds of Sils Maria at The Desmond Complex in Newcastle West, on Friday 4th December at 8pm. This is the third night of the season and admission is €7. The venue is ideal for the crowd who come early for a chat and refreshments before curtains up.

Aine Upton a transition year student in Desmond College, Newcastle West, has undertaken to travel to Calcutta, India, with the Hope Foundation in March 2016. She will take part in the ‘’Students helping Students’’ programme. Hope believe that understanding and witnessing the reality of poverty inspires young people to take action for change. As part of her fundraising she will be holding a pub quiz in Peadar’s Bar, Ardagh on Friday 4th December at 9pm. Aine would appreciate your support for this cause and there will be plenty of spot prizes to be won on the night.

The annual Christmas Bazaar will be held in Coolcappa Community Hall on Saturday 5th December at 6.30pm. The committee would welcome donations of the following items: glass, pottery, crockery, cutlery, costume jewellery, candles, vintage clothing, ornaments, books, photo frames, etc.  Items can be collected within a reasonable distance or dropped to Rosemary Enright 085-1688307

The annual craft fair will be held in Dromcollogher hall on Sunday 6th December from 10.30am. Santa is due to arrive at 12 noon with presents for all the children. Tables cost €15 and more information can be got from Mary Lynch on 087-9978000.

Newcastle West and District Lions Club are holding their annual Christmas Concert in Newcastle West Church on Sunday December 6th at 7.30 pm. Ardagh Community Centre will hold a Monster Christmas Bingo in aid of funding for the Community Centre upkeep on Wednesday 16th December at 8pm. There will be €2,100 in prize money and lots of spot prizes on offer. A double book and two sheets will cost €15. A single book and two sheets will cost € 13. A half book will cost € 5, and extra sheets will cost € 2 each. Your support will be greatly appreciated and all are welcome. The event will recall many happy memories of a time when Ardagh Bingo was a must place to be of a Monday night.
