Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Damien Nolan, Kilcolman and Katie Collins, Ballymacave, Croagh who were married in St John the Baptist Church, Croagh, on Friday August 28. The celebrant was Fr Eugene Boyce and the reception was held in the Devon Inn Hotel.

Michael O’Connor, the former St Kieran’s player, from Glenville, Ardagh, held his Captain’s Prize, at Newcastle West Golf Club, in Rathgoonan, Ardagh, on Saturday August 29 and Sunday August 30. Congratulations to Maurice Windle, from Ardagh, a former team mate, with St Kieran’s, who was the winner with a score of 63 net.

Congratulations to Nora Quaid (O’Connor) a native of Glenastar, Ardagh who won the Ladies Competition, at Ballybunion Golf Club, on Sunday, August 30th.

The Limerick GAA Club draw for August was held at Limerick Live 95 FM during the sports programme on Saturday, August 29.  The Saint Kieran’s club had two winners. Congratulations to Mary Aherne O’Connor, Boughill Bó, Kilcolman, who won €250 and Willie McMahon, Kilcolman, who won €250. The next draw will be held at the same venue on Saturday 26th September.

St Kieran’s defeated St Senan’s by 2-13 to 0-6 in the West Minor B Football Championship semi-final re-fixture on Tuesday, September 1st. They will play Granagh-Ballingarry-Banogue in the final on this Friday 11th September at 6.15pm in Foynes. The best of luck to all involved with the team.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Fr Caseys by 4-9 to 1-6 in the County Division 2 U-16 Football Championship playoff to progress to the semi-final.

Seamus O’Donnell, the former St Kieran’s and Limerick player, was the trainer of the Cappagh team that defeated Monagea by 2-13 to 2-10 in the West Junior A Football Championship Final at Askeaton, on Saturday August 29.

Daniel Geraghty from Ardagh N.S. and St Kieran’s participated in the Go Games in Croke Park during the interval of the Dublin and Mayo All Ireland Football semi-final on Sunday August 30.

Jason Mullins was the referee in charge of the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship semi-final between Kilmoyley, and Ballyduff which was played in Abbeydorney on Sunday August 30.

Carrig Celtic defeated Rathkeale B 4-3 away in Division 1 of the Desmond League on Sunday August 30. Ray Cahill, 2 Seanie King, and Sean McSweeney, scored the goals. In Division 2 Old Mill lost 4-0 at home to Bally Rovers, and won 2-1 at home to St Ita’s. Creeves Celtic defeated Ballysteen 7-0 at home, and they lost 2-1 away to Adare. In Division 3 Carrig Celtic B lost 8-0 away to Ballingarry B.

Mattie Histon, Kilcolman, on behalf of Drivewise School of Motoring recently presented a set of jerseys to Broadford handball club members before they travelled to Calgary, Canada, to participate in the World Handball Championships.

A reminder to all members of the Carrigkerry Gun Club that the insurance membership cards are now ready for collection. The club would like to thank the landowners for the continued use of their lands during the shooting season, which opens for pheasants on Sunday 1st November. The members are asked to respect people’s property at all times and to be safety aware. Cards can be collected from Mike, whose contact no is 087-9562101.

The set dancing resumed at the Ballintemple Inn Newcastle West on Tuesday September 8. It is a great social occasion and it provides lots of exercise for people for the winter months. The set dancing takes place each Tuesday from 8.30pm and all are welcome.

Mike Flynn, the Saint Kieran’s player, has announced the following keep fit classes for the coming months. Women’s class in Carrigkerry Community Centre on Monday’s from 7-8pm. Women’s class in Ardagh Community Centre on Wednesday’s from 8-9pm. Men’s class in Ardagh Community Centre on Thursday’s from 7.30-8.30pm. Women’s class in Ardagh Community Centre on Friday’s from 7-8pm. The classes commence on Monday, September 14. The fee is €6, pay as you go per class and all are welcome.

We welcome Fr Tim Curtin, Parish Priest of Coolcappa/Kilcolman as administrator of Ardagh/Carrigkerry parish to take effect from Monday, 14th September.  A new mass time schedule has been agreed as follows and will take effect in Ardagh/Carrigkerry from 19th/20th September.

St Kyran’s Church Coolcappa 6pm and St Molua’s Church Ardagh 7.30pm.

The summer is over and the schools have re-opened and we welcome autumn and look forward to a better run of weather. It was a most disappointing summer with a lack of sunshine and warm dry weather. Apart from a few weeks in June it was a wash out and it curtailed many people from engaging in activities, be it work or leisure related.

Sacred Space, the religious programme, is presented by John Keily from Ardagh, and his fellow presenters each Sunday morning from 10am to 11am on West Limerick 102 Community Radio.

This year’s National Ploughing Championship will be held in Ratheniska, County Laois from Tuesday, 22nd September to Thursday, 24th September. This will be the third year in a row for the venue to hold the very popular event that attracts large crowds over the three days.
