On this Friday, March 20th, there will be the annual Athea N.S. sponsored walk starting from the school at 11am. All parents are invited to come along and join in the walk and of course anyone else who wishes to join in would be very welcome. Sponsorship cards have been given to the children and you are asked to give a few Euro and help out. Hopefully the day will be dry for the walk. Great work has been done in the school over the past number of years and with everyone’s help the good work will continue to benefit all the children.
A few congratulations are in order this week. Birthday celebrations were in abundance this past week; Josephine O’Connor, Gortnagross, celebrated her 60th along with her family.
Good wishes go to Nellie Ahern of Upper Dirreen who had a very special birthday on Saturday night last which she celebrated with her family and friends. She had reached the great age of “90”. Wishing her continued good health and happiness.
Colleen Reidy was “whisked off” to Prague last week by Matt Tierney where she celebrated her 40th birthday. You are forgiven for the lack of your brown bread last Friday Colleen, your customers know it wasn’t Alzheimers yet – you’re only 40- it was just excitement at having reached a milestone !
We also send heartiest congrats to first time parents Norma and John Paul O’Riordan who were blessed with their new baby girl last week. They are naming her Siún. We congratulate the proud grandparents Noreen and Gene Brouder of Templeathea and Joan and Willie O’Riordan of Dirreen.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Jim Larkin and his family, Clash, on the death over the weekend of Anne. Many came to pay their respects at Kelly’s funeral parlour on Sunday evening last. Burial took place after Requiem Mass on Monday. ‘May the Light of Heaven be hers’.
Thanks to those who supported the table quiz in aid of the hall on Friday night last at the Top of the Town.
Hopefully all you mothers out there are well rested having been hopefully well pampered this Mother’s Day, last Sunday. “You are very special people with the nicest ways of bringing others happiness with the things you do and say”
