Well done to the Athea Tidy Towns committee who, on Thursday night last, once again held a hugely successful Fashion Show here in the hall. Everything from the cheese & wine reception to the stage lighting, sound, models, raffle & much more were a credit to all concerned. No doubt the money raised will be put to extremely good use as the Tidy Towns volunteers do their brilliant work in the months ahead in and around the parish. Congrats to one and all.

Well what can one say  about the Athea Drama Group’s production of ‘It’s the Real McCoy’! Little did the group think that after 6 nights initially of it’s showing that they would be still going strong with another extra night showing on this Thursday, March 5th. It’s going from strength to strength with packed houses each night. Last Sunday night’s takings went to Pieta House – who received the fantastic sum of €2,500, along with that the Vincent de Paul received €1,500 and the Community Alert €1,500. You are advised to be early on Thursday night if you want to see this greatly acclaimed “Last & Final Showing”!

Congrats and good wishes go to Nicole O’Sullivan of Hillside Drive (daughter of Sandra & Noel) who celebrated her 18th birthday on Saturday night last, along with her friends in Killarney.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary Teresa Hurley daughter of Nora of Lower Athea who was laid to rest this past week having reached a great age. Nora was a real lady – a nurse by profession who was known far & wide and had a great love of traditional music. Many came to pay their last respects to relatives and friends at Kelly’s Funeral Parlour on Friday evening. ‘May the light of heaven be hers’.

Athea N.S. will be holding their annual sponsored walk on Friday, March 20th. Parents, friends & anyone who would like to join in on the walk is very welcome. It takes place from the school, weather permitting. You are asked to please support the walk to raise funds for the school.

An important Parish Meeting will be held next Monday night, March 9th with regard to getting parishioners views for the future of our church and the forthcoming Synod. Now is the time to come along and have your opinion and  voice and air your views.
