‘Out & About’

Well this past week has seen another 3 nights of packed audiences here in the hall for the Athea Drama Group’s production of “It’s the Real McCoy”. People unfortunately had to be turned away over the few nights hence the group have had to put on the play for a further 2 nights this week which will be this Thursday 19th and Sunday 22nd making a total of 8 nights that the group has “tread those boards” with continued standing ovations!

Just thought to myself if this was shown to our emigrants all over the world the cast would be “famous” in a short time such was their performances – so if you still haven’t got the chance to see it make sure you do so this week, it will leave you coming away “exhilarated”.

Well after the excitement of the drama we now have the “Tidy Towns” Fashion Show to look forward to. This will take place on Thursday, February 26th in the hall. A cheese and wine reception will take place before the show starts. This is a fundraiser for the Tidy Towns and if last year is anything to go by it should be a huge success. And of course having the “local models” makes it all the better. There will be a prize also for “the best dressed” lady/man on the night. So out with the glad rags and join in the fun, at the same time aiding the Tidy Towns to so more great work in and around the village in the coming months.

Well as I write these lines on this Monday night – Pancake Tuesday beckons tomorrow – that means there will be many mouths awaiting the much loved pancakes from the pan. In years gone by Pancake Tuesday was the day that the flour, eggs etc were used up in preparation for Lent, when there was fasting from almost everything! Ash Wednesday is a day when everyone has great intentions, giving up this and that – however, we are urged nowadays to “take on something” like visiting an elderly person, helping a neighbour, calling to a nursing home to visit the sick and maybe give up a favourite TV programme or facebook or maybe to urge them to pick up papers, rubbish etc on their roads. Not sure if our youth would be too enthusiastic about that – but who knows – there are some great young people out there too.
