Charity and Community Spirit in Abbeyfeale

The true meaning of Christmas has been made abundantly clear in Abbeyfeale. For a number of weeks before Christmas, the fifth year Home Economics students of Coláiste Íde agus Iosef together with their teacher Mrs Meade have participated in a major food appeal to help the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The students collected the food items for the hampers throughout the month of November from the school community of Coláiste Íde agus Iosef.

The donated foods contributed to the production of 68 fabulous food hampers which have been donated to the Athea Branch of the St Vincent De Paul. The hampers, consisting of approximately 22 essential food items as well as some luxury treats, were presented to Tom O’Keeffe, the SVP representative from Athea, at the school.

The students and Mrs. Meade would especially like to take this opportunity to express their extreme gratitude to the local shops for their generous support, in particular Tesco Abbeyfeale who supported the appeal with food donations in lieu of their national campaign. The beautiful hampers were being distributed by St. Vincent de Paul to families who were in need this Christmas time.
