Matches:
U21 Premier Football Championship
Friday November 14:
Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 1-06 Oola 1-11
Our U21s suffered their first defeat of the premier football championship when they were well beaten by Oola in Mick Neville Park on Friday night last. Even though we got off to a flying start when Ryan Carroll scored a great goal inside the first two minutes it was the East Limerick side that dominated for the next twenty minutes and scored a goal and four points without reply. Too often Oola forwards and midfield opened up our defense and scored some lovely points. We came back into it late in the second half with points from Matthew Brouder, Mark O’Connor, Shane Mulvihill and Pa Delee which left the half time score Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 1-04 Oola 1-06. We started brightly once again at the start of the second half and points from Shane Mulvihill and Mark O’Connor had the sides level after ten minutes. Disappointingly we failed to score for the rest of the match, our wayward shooting was the very opposite of Oola as they were very accurate in front of goals and tacked on five more points before the final whistle to leave the final score Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 1-06 Oola 1-11. The better team won on the night and we need a massive improvement as we take on a very physical Ballybrown side in the fifth round of the championship. Team: Jonathan Fitzgerald, Timmy Finnegan, Jamie Lenihan, Diarmuid Flanagan, Jason O’Flaherty, Denis Greaney, Dylan Griffin, Mark O’ Connor, Stephen Cahill, Shane Mulvihill, Pa Delee, Ryan Carroll, Padraic Walsh, Matthew Brouder, Kevin O’Mahony, Daniel Brosnahan, Gavin O’Reilly, William Mullane, Padraig Collins & Johnny Stack.
Fixtures for November;
U21 Premier Football Championship 5th Round:
Athea/Mountcollins Rangers will play Ballybrown in the 5th round of the U21 premier football championship. Date, Time and venue to be confirmed. All support greatly appreciated

U12 Parish Tournament:
Last Sunday at the High Field we had a fantastic day’s football from all four teams in the U12 tournament. The day was cold but dry so ideal for football and the huge crowd of parents, grandparents and supporters had plenty to cheer about. The four teams, Mayo, Limerick, Carlow and Roscommon all played each other and after six short matches, Carlow with two wins and a draw progressed to the final against Roscommon who had two wins and a loss. This game proved to be an epic contest as all the players fought might and mane for victory. It was Carlow, managed by Roger Ryan who claimed victory by 0-3 to 0-0. They had to defend with every ounce of energy and oceans of skill at their disposal, to keep Roscommon from getting an equalizing goal in the final minutes. On the day Carlow were worthy winners with their players all performing to the very peak of their ability. After the game all the children received treats and were presented with medals and the winning captain Thomas McEnery was presented with the Stelcon Perpetual Shield kindly sponsored by Diarmuid Collins of Templeathea. There was also tea and coffee for the supporters in the clubhouse while the speeches were being made.
Teams:
Carlow: Thomas McEnery(Captain) Brandon Finucane, Evan Wallace, Amy Ryan, Gavin Mulvihill & Gearoid O’Sullivan. Manager: Roger Ryan.
Roscommon: Jack Hunt (Captain), Michael Tierney, Eoin Sheahan, Pierce O’Brien, Pauric Enright & Cillian O’Connor. Manager: Mike Sheahan.
Mayo: Aidan Curry (Captain), Alex McEldowney, Sarah O’Connor & Fergal Pierse. Manager: David O’Connor.
Limerick: Luke Gleeson(Captain), Eoin O’Shea, Daire O’Shea, T.J. Hunt, Conor Mullane & James Lee. Manager: John Hunt. A big thank you to our two referees Derek Byrne and Tommy Denihan and also of course to Jacqueline O’ Connor who organized all the treats in the Clubhouse with help from some parents.
Last Sunday marked the end of the season for our U12 footballers, who had a great year with plenty of matches and training since they began in mid-March. I’m looking forward to next year already.
Training in the Hall:
Training for Junior Infants and Senior Infants will commence Wednesday evening November 26 from 6pm until 7pm in the Con Colbert Community Hall. There will be a charge of €2 per child and all players must have gum shields.

Athea Community Games
The Athea Community Games AGM will take place next Thursday 20th November. It will be held at 8pm in the back kitchen at the Community Hall. It would be wonderful if we could get a few new faces involved this year to bring fresh ideas and continue the great work of the committee. The community games is a wonderful opportunity for the children of our parish to get involved in a range of activities from Athletics to drama and Art being just a few of the activities that we have excelled in last year, together with 3 athletes, Michael Ambrose, Katie Byrne and Aoibhinn Morrissey representing Athea and Limerick in the National Community Games competitions in Athlone this year. Please come along and show your support for the children of the parish, we look forward to seeing you there. Caroline Pierse, Secretary.
