U12 Cup (Sat, November 1st)

Athea Utd     (2) 3      Eoin O’Shea (2), Michael Tierney (pen)

Bluebell Utd (0) 2

The twelve’s left their league form behind them to turn in a fine display to get the better of Bluebell Utd, the runaway leaders in division three, to progress to the next round of the under twelve cup. From the off we took the game to the visitors and were rewarded with two goals from Eoin O’Shea and we held this lead to the half time whistle. Early in the second half they got a goal back but we restored our two goal advantage when Michael Tierney converted from the penalty spot. There was a penalty at the other end ten minutes later which Bluebell scored from to leave the game on tenderhooks. However we held firm, despite one or two late scares to get through to the next round and a home tie against Pallaskenry

U21 Premier Football Championship

Friday October31:

Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 5-13

Black and Whites 0-10

Following the disappointment of having no game the previous week our U21s played their first competitive match in the second round of the Premier Football Championship against the Black and Whites in Mick Neville Park on Friday night last. We totally dominated the first half restricting the opposition to two points over the thirty minutes.  Pa Delee got things going with a hat trick of points and Mark O’Connor added a fourth all inside the first ten minutes. The Black and Whites responded with two points of their own to close the gap, then we missed a golden opportunity to increase our lead when a well struck Pa Delee penalty hit the upright and the ball was cleared.

A fine save from Jonathan Fitzgerald kept the opposition at bay and then two points each for Shane Mulvihill and Ryan Carroll gave us a six point lead heading towards half time. Our backs were well on top at this stage not giving an inch and our midfield pairing of Stephen Cahill and Mark O’Connor were dominate around the middle of the park. We then scored two quick goals before the break one each for Matthew Brouder and Ryan Carroll to give us an unassailable lead at half-time, Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 2-08, Black and Whites 0-02. At the start of the second half Shane Mulvihill rose the white flag  but then we seem to fall asleep and the Black and Whites kicked over five unanswered points to give them a glimmer of hope of a comeback.

We stepped up a gear mid-way through the half and Matthew Brouder finished off a fine move when he calmly slotted the ball to the back of the net. Kevin Murphy, Pa Delee and Matthew Brouder all exchanged points with the opposition before Matthew scored his third and Athea/Mountcollins Rangers fourth goal of the night. Maurice Hayes who had come on as a sub finished of the scoring when he tapped over a point and shortly afterwards he then rounded the goalkeeper to score a great goal to leave the final score Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 5-13 Black and Whites 0-10.This was a powerful performance and a great confidence booster as we face our near neighbours Fr. Caseys this Friday night in Mick Neville Park.

Team: Jonathan Fitzgerald, Timmy Finnegan, Jamie Lenihan, Diarmuid Flanagan, Jason O’Flaherty, Denis Greaney, Dylan Griffin, Mark O’Connor, Stephen Cahill, Shane Mulvihill, Pa Delee, Cian O’Sullivan, Kevin Murphy, Matthew Brouder, Ryan Carroll, Kevin O’Mahony, Gavin O’Reilly, Maurice Hayes, Mikie O’Mahony, Daniel Brosnahan & Liam O’Brien.
