The good weather is over I am afraid. It was lovely while it lasted. September was the driest month in these parts since June 2006.

Last Wednesday night on Nationwide there was a spot about Limerick and the comedians called Tom and Paschal. These were a stage comic duo who entertained many in the 60’s and 70’s. It was lovely and nostalgic to watch some of their antics again and brought me back to the early sixties when I used to see them on the stage in local venues. Katie and Nonie was one of their acts. I remember that the young Faleys shared the stage with them one night and my father often boasted of the compliments that Tom and Paschal gave us for our performance. Looking back on it now I am sure the young people would mock and dismiss the humour but at the time they were well known and liked. I had not known that they had travelled the UK and  USA with their acts until  I saw the programme. Paschal still entertains on a small scale while his friend Tom sadly died in 2013.

I keep meaning to congratulate Tom Aherne on his very interesting articles in the Limerick Leader every week. He has a weekly column where An Mangaire Súgach used to be in years gone by. Last week he was writing about the history of Mount Trenchard in Foynes which proved to be interesting reading.

I must congratulate Carol Noonan on her very creative crafts which are on sale in “Atlantic Creations” craft shop in Ballybunion, just beside the Supervalu. Be sure to call in whenever you visit Ballybunion.

Meanwhile Mary McCarthy from Turraree, Athea wants to know if there is anybody in the area who can teach her how to use a Knitmaster.  Pass on the word.

Our new PP, Fr Austin McNamara has arrived in Ballyhahill and a large congregation welcomed him at his first Mass last Saturday night. We hope he will feel welcome.
