“Put Back Those Clocks”
Sincere congrats are extended this week to Norma Brouder of Templeathea (daughter of Noreen and Gene) who was married on Friday last to John Paul O’Riordan (son of Joan and Willie) of Dirreen. The bridesmaids were Aoife Brouder, Grainne Brouder and Elaine Collins. The best men were Conor Brouder, Francis O’Riordan and Timmy Sheehy. Fr. Michael Cussen celebrated the nuptial ceremony here in Athea and a great day was enjoyed by everyone at The Malton Hotel in Killarney.
Thanks is extended to all who gave so generously to the church gate collection last weekend in aid of St. Ita’s. A total of €655 was collected.
Athea ‘Crafts group’ meet in the kitchen of the Community Hall each Wednesday morning from 10am to 12 noon. Come along for a cup of tea/coffee or a chat. If you have any experience in any craft e.g. crochet, knitting, painting or whatever, please come and share it with the group. If not, don’t worry, come along anyway and socialise with the group. You might learn something and will get to meet old friends and even make new ones. Ideas will be shared and crafts learned.
Can you believe it’s that time of year again when this weekend sees the end of summer-time and the start of wintertime and the clocks go back an hour giving everyone an hour extra in bed. Not many like the longer, dark nights, however this year we have been so lucky with the weather that the time is flying and Christmas will be upon us before we know it!
Don’t forget to gather up your photos and bits of news and articles for the Parish Journal. Donal and Lillian are anxious to get in contributions as soon as possible in order to have the Journal out in time for Christmas.
Well done to the boys U-12 basketball team who on Sunday last had a great game here in the hall against the Abbeyfeale/Duagh combination winning on a score of 42—27.
Also the U-16 girls, who travelled to Ennis, were victorious also on Sunday. We are so lucky here in Athea when one sees our young boys under lights playing on the astro turf at The Vales when it is dark.
Then we have the G.A.A. pitch which looks great now with painted gates, walls etc. , another boost to our young footballers. The sports hall then has our extremely fit basketball players; in all great facilities for our youth.
