The death has taken place of Sinead Helen Hanley, Woodview Park, Limerick and Coolcappa, Ardagh. She is survived by her parents Desmond and Helen, twin sister Grainne, brothers, uncles, aunts and extended family. She lay in repose at Magner’s Funeral Home, Rathkeale, on Monday September 29th from 11am to 1pm; followed by removal to Saint Kyran’s Church, Coolcappa for Requiem Mass at 2pm. Burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. We extend our sympathy to the grieving family and may she rest in peace Amen.
The death has taken place of Patrick (Paddy) Ahern Briskagh, Shanagolden. He lay in repose at Madigan’s Funeral Home, Shanagolden, on Thursday October 2nd from 6pm followed by removal to Saint Senan’s Church Shanagolden. His Funeral Mass was celebrated there on Friday at 1pm, followed by burial in Monagea Cemetery. We extend our sympathy to Isobel, extended family members, and friends. May he rest in Peace.
We extend our sympathy to Mary and Pat Curtin and family, Kilcolman, on the death of Mary’s father Patrick Delee, 71 the Paddock, Newcastle West, and late of Bohard, Kilmeedy on Friday September 26th. His remains were removed from Reidy’s Funeral Home, Newcastle West to the Church of Saint Ita’s Kilmeedy on Sunday September 28th. He was laid to rest following Requiem Mass in Kilmeedy Cemetery on Monday September 29th. May he rest in Peace.
We extend our sympathy to Catherine Ferris, School Principal Kilcolman National School on the death of her father Seán Ferris, peacefully at his residence Glenbcullare, Tarbert, County Kerry on Sunday September 21st. His remains were removed from Saint Mary’s Funeral Home to Saint Mary’s Church Tarbert on Monday September 22nd. He was laid to rest following Requiem Mass in Gale Cemetery, Ballydonoghue on Tuesday September 22nd. We also extend sympathy to his wife Liz and the extended members of the Ferris family. May he rest in Peace.
Congratulations to Sheila O’Regan, Ardagh who was appointed by Heather Humphreys, Minister for the Arts, to the Board of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) on Friday September 12th. Sheila is the well known presenter of the Exchange Programme on West Limerick Community Radio three days a week. She is also a high profile volunteer who has been involved in many clubs and organizations over the years. She is very interested in the promotion of the arts and her appointment to the board is to be welcomed in local circles.

Saint Kieran’s were defeated by Pallasgreen 0-14 to 0-6 in Round 5 of Group 2 of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship at Clarina on Saturday October 4th. They trailed by 6 points to 2 points at half time after playing uphill and facing the wind. Pallasgreen were more dominant in the second half and extended their lead gradually as the half progressed to book a semi-final place. Creeves Celtic lost 2-0 at home to Bally Rovers in Round 2 of the Richard Hogan Cup on Sunday October 5th. Old Mill lost 12-1 at home to Rockhill Rovers in Division 1 of the Desmond League. Carrig Celtic had no fixtures.
In the Desmond Ladies League Division 1 Creeves Celtic lost 4-0 at home to Breska Rovers, and Kilcolman Rovers lost 4-1 away to Kilbehenny.

The Rosary will be recited each evening at 7pm during the month of October at Churchtown Grotto, Newcastle West, and all are welcome to come along and to join in.
The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes before all weekend Masses for the month of October in Ardagh/Carrigkerry and Coolcappa/Kilcolman Churches.

West Limerick Bowls Club are holding an opening evening at Halla Tadhg Gaelach, Tournafulla on this Thursday 16th October from 6pm until 10pm for anyone who would like to try out this very relaxing game. All people need is a pair of flat soled shoes as the club will supply the bowls. The senior members must be 18 or over and the junior members from 12 to 17 years, and to be accompanied by an adult for insurance reasons. The club meets every Thursday at 7.30pm and all are welcome to attend and a person will be available to explain the game. If people are interested they can contact 069-81936 for more details.
Coolcappa Parents Association are holding a number of fundraising events in the coming months. A used clothes collection will be held at Coolcappa N.S. on Friday 17th October. They will be delighted to receive new and used men’s women’s and children’s clothing footwear belts, handbags, hats, linen, household textiles etc. They will be also bag packing in Tesco, Newcastle West on Saturday 24th October from 10am.
The Comhaltas Tour of Ireland Concert hosted by C.C.E. Tempall an Ghleanntáin will take place in Halla Inse Bhán Templeglantine on Wednesday 22nd October. The local artists performing with the group include Natasha Sheehy button accordion player, John Collins, storyteller and brush dancer, and John Harnett, dancer. West Limerick Singing Club are holding the sixth annual Garry Mc Mahon weekend festival from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th October in Abbeyfeale. Seamus Brogan, singer and lilter from Wexford will officially open the festival at 8pm in the Ramble Inn on Friday October 17th. Singing sessions will be held each night in the Ramble Inn and at Leens Hotel from 9.30pm. Seamus Brogan and Joe O’Connor will hold workshops on composing traditional ballads from 10.30am to 1pm on Saturday at Leens Hotel. Garry Mc Mahon’s Aifreann na Ríochta will be celebrated at 12 noon. A special tribute in honour of Jimmy O’Brien the Traditional singer from Killarney will be held in Fr Casey’s GAA Clubhouse at 3pm.
