Matches:

Friday September 12:

U8 Nigel Buicke Tournament:

Our U8 footballers did very well winning the Shield competition in the Nigel Buicke tournament in Castlemahon on Friday evening last. We played a very strong Feohanagh/Castlemhon in our first game and despite our best efforts it was the home team who won out at the final whistle. We then played Mountcollins in the Shield Final shortly afterwards. This was a super game of football and our young boys and girls gave it their all. All the skills of Gaelic football were on display in this match. The kicking, soloing, hand passing and scoring was a joy to behold for all who had travelled to support this team. At the final whistle Athea had won, Captain Brid Hunt accepted the shield on behalf of the team and Limerick Minor hurler Seamus Flanagan presented the whole team with medals. We would like to thank Feohanagh/Castlemahon for inviting us to the tournament and for all the lovely treats afterwards and also to the parents and families who travelled to support this young team. Team: Brid Hunt, Callum Buckley, Evan Curry, James Hunt, Fionn Histon, Jamie Collins, Jack Sexton, James Hunt, Rory Cleary, Niamh Ambrose, Ailisa Ahern, Tomás Ahern, Aisling Donovan & Aoife Sheahan.

Saturday September 13:

U12:

The U12 footballers traveled to UL on Saturday morning last for an all-County blitz. This gave us an opportunity to play against teams we had not met before. We had three games against Ballybricken/Bohermore, Ballybrown and Ahane. We had a panel of nineteen players and with the games being 11 a side there was a lot of juggling to get every player plenty of game time. The team played excellent football, displaying all the skills of Gaelic football like high fielding, accurate kicking, scoring, hand passing and tackling. We won our first game comfortably, lost our second game well and very narrowly lost our third game as the players tired against opposition who were playing their first game of the day. With all the chopping and changing, our excellent goalkeeper Colin Broderick was the only player to play every minute of every game. It is hard to single anyone out but there were exceptional displays from Alex McEldowney, Michael Tierney and Eoin O’Shea and overall we were very pleased with the team’s performances as they gave their loyal band of supporters plenty to cheer about. Training continues on Wednesday night at 6.30p.m. Panel: Colin Broderick, Eoin Sheahan, Alex McEldowney, Eoin O’Shea, Danny Brady, Pierce O’Brien, Andrew O’Riordan, Michael Tierney, Gavin Ambrose, Luke Gleeson, Sarah O’Connor, Jack Hunt, Aidan Curry, TJ Hunt, Paraic Enright, Brandon Finucane, Dermot Pierse, Adam Byrne & Thomas McEnery
