There has being a hugh amount of interest from clubs, leagues, companies in the years since and with the new season only weeks away now is the time to book your slot for either training or leisure as there has been a lot of interest in the past few weeks. The advice is not to delay and phone either Pat on (087)7934417 or Denis on (087)2069900 now as slots are very limited.

U15 County Final:

Athea 2-09               Kildimo/Pallaskenry 1-05

Our 15s were crowned County Champions for a second year in a row when they defeated Kildimo/Pallaskenry by seven points in the final in Mick Neville Park on Friday evening last. Even though the score line suggests we had an easy victory this game was in the balance until the final five minutes. Playing into the breeze in the first half, Brian Sheehan opened the scoring with a point after been set up by Andy Ahern. Sean Ryan was next on the scoreboard with a well taken point. Our half back line of Cillian Liston, Shane Ambrose and Jack Vaughan were well on top and were not afraid to attack forward at any stage. Sean Ryan tapped over a free from in front of goals to extend our lead to three points. Kildimo/Pallaskenry came more into the game at this stage sending in long high balls and got their first point after seven minutes. Another Athea attack resulted in Alan Kelly splitting the post with a great point. Two Further points for the opposition reduced the gap to one point midway through the half. Cathal O’ Brien was solid in goals but had little to do thanks to our hard working back line of Mark McAuliffe, Micheál Dalton and David O’Sullivan who were giving their forwards little chance of scoring. A great move by Athea ended up with Alan Kelly passing a long ball into Brian Sheahan and he blasted it to the net for a great goal. Kildimo/Pallaskenry responded with a point of their own, but soon after Sean Ryan tapped over a free to give us a four point lead at the break, Athea 1-05, Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-04. We started the second half well and the very impressive Shane Ambrose scored a super point to increase our lead. Our midfield pairing of Micheál Ambrose and Sean Ryan were outstanding and Kildimo/Pallaskenry found it very hard to get the ball past them. Alan Kelly added another point but we suffered a major blow when we were reduced to fourteen men for the rest of the half and the opposition raced up and scored a goal to leave just a goal between the teams. They continued to press but our boys stood strong not giving an inch and dealing with everything they threw at us. With five minutes left on the clock a long ball in was well won by John Sexton and he passed it to the unmarked Jack Gleeson who scored a super goal to the cheers of the huge Athea support who had travelled to the match. John Sexton scored a point shortly after and from the kick out Jack O’Connor fielded the ball and passed it to John Sexton to score his second point in as many minutes.  Kildimo/Pallaskenry scored a point late on but at the final whistle the score line read Athea 2-09, Kildimo/Pallaskenry 1-05. This was a great team effort and great credit to the coaches Tom Collins, David O’Connor and Denis Sheahan for having the team spot on for the final. Many thanks for all who travelled to support our team and to Kildimo/ Pallaskenry for a fine sporting game. Thanks also to the parents that helped out in the Clubhouse afterwards. Team: Cathal O’Brien, David O’Sullivan, Micheál Dalton, Mark McAuliffe, Jack Vaughan, Cillian Liston, Shane Ambrose, Micheál Ambrose, Sean Ryan, Liam McAuliffe, Alan Kelly, Andy Ahern, Jack Gleeson, Brian Sheehan, John Seton, Jack O’Connor, David O’Connor, TJ White, Joseph Dalton & Jamie O’Mahony.

Monday September 8:

U12:

Our U12s played Feohanagh/Castlemahon at home in Páirc na nGael on Monday evening last. We opened the scoring when Sarah O’ Connor scored a super point from out near the side line. Soon after Luke Gleeson had the ball in the back of the net. The visitors responded with two points of their own, but Michael Tierney restored our lead when he scored a great goal. Eoin Sheahan was having a super game in the backs as was Gavin Ambrose in the forwards. Just before half time Feohanagh/Castlemahon scored a goal.  In the second half the visitors were quick out of the blocks and scored a goal and three points without reply. Alex McEldowney scored a great goal after a pass from Paraic Enright to close the gap. But Feohanagh/Castlemahon extended their lead with two more points. Alex McEldowney was on the score board again as he rose a white flag after a great passing movement. This was a great team effort with all players doing well especially Alex McEldowney, Colin Broderick, Eoin O’Shea and the excellent Michael Tierney. The team has been improving with every match they have played this year, and you can really see it in those who rarely miss training. Panel: Colin Broderick, Eoin Sheahan, Alex McEldowney, Eoin O’Shea, Danny Brady, Pierce O’Brien, Andrew O’Riordan, Michael Tierney, Gavin Ambrose, Luke Gleeson, Sarah O’Connor, Jack Hunt, Aidan Curry, TJ Hunt, Paraic Enright, Brandon Finucane, Dermot Pierse, Adam Byrne & Thomas McEnery.
