Athea Utd Soccer

2014 AWARDS NIGHT

We held our Annual Awards Night last Friday night, June 27th at The Top of the Town, Athea and which is the social highlight of the year. The 2013/14 season from a schoolboy perspective wasn’t as successful as previous seasons as we ended the season without a trophy for the first time in a number of years while on the junior front success also eluded us. Nevertheless our Awards Night is about reflecting back on the season and how our players did individually and collectively as part of a team. Presentations were made to U11 player Andrew O’Riordan who is part of the Limerick Desmond Schoolboys/Girls League Academy Squad. Also on a league viewpoint the club congratulates Daire O’Shea who was voted Division 4 player of the year. The U8s and U10s received medals for their efforts during the season for their dedication to training.
The following are the Athea Utd players of the year for 2014
U/10 Gavin Mulvihill.
U/11 Andrew O’Riordan
U/12 Eoin Sheahan
U/13 Jack O’Connor
U/14 Shane Ambrose

Matches:

Friday June 27:

Minor:

Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 5-13      St. Kierans 2-04

Our Minors played St. Kierans on Friday evening last in Páirc na nGael. On a lovely evening for football it was James Ryan who opened the scoring with a pointed free. Soon after our defense was caught napping from a free and we conceded a goal. We then settled the ship and points from Padraig Collins, James Ryan and Mikie O’Mahony had us a point ahead. Our backs were well on top at this stage with the very impressive Cian Larkin setting up many attacks for our forwards. With ten minutes left in the half Padraig Collins scored a great goal and followed it up with a point to put us in control. Then just before half time a point for the opposition and a point from the boot of Mikie O‘Mahony left us seven points ahead at the break.  The score line reading Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 2-05, St. Kierans 1-01. In the second half Athea/Mountcollins Rangers upped a gear, two points each for Padraic Walsh and James Ryan was added to with a point from Jack Denihan and a goal from Mikie O’Mahony. The visitors hit back with a goal and two points of their own. William Mullane and James Ryan both rose white flags before St. Kierans scored their last point of the evening. Another goal and a point for Padraig Collins added to our lead and just before the final whistle William Mullane capped of a fine performance when he scored a super goal from twenty five yards. The final score was Athea 5-13, St. Kierans 2-04 and they will now play away to Adare this Friday evening at 7.30pm. Team: Johnny Stack, Jason Dalton, Timmy Finnegan, Tommy Quaid, Diarmuid Flanagan, William Mullane, Cian Larkin, Keith Murphy, Gavin O’Reilly, James Ryan, Padraic Walsh, Jack Denihan, Mikie O’Mahony, Padraig Collins, William Sexton.
